Shooting Reported at YouTube Headquarters in California

There have been reports of an active shooting at YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif., the police said on Tuesday afternoon.

The San Bruno Police Department said on Twitter about 1 p.m. that there was police activity at 901 Cherry Avenue, the address of the YouTube office, and cautioned to avoid the area.

Vadim Lavrusik, a YouTube employee who formerly worked for The New York Times, tweeted that there was an “active shooter at YouTube HQ” and that he “heard shots and saw people running while at my desk.” He said that he was barricaded inside a room with co-workers, but moments later tweeted that he was out of the building.

A video posted on Snapchat showed people being led away from the building with their hands in the air in a single-file line.

“We have people out there at this time,” said Laticia Soto, a spokeswoman for the San Bruno Police Department. “That is pretty much all we can say. it is an active investigation.”
