How does the draw for the 2025 English Open work?
All Home Nations Series events this season will again use a tiered draw system, meaning players enter at different rounds depending on their world ranking positions.
The top 32 seeds for the 2025 English Open go straight through to round three (last 64) when the televised stages in Brentwood begin.
The lowest ranked players and amateur invites start out in round one, with the winners of those ties meeting seeds 33 to 64 in round two.
As defending champion, Robertson is the number one seed and will sit at the top of the draw; current World Champion Zhao Xintong is the number two seed at the bottom.

The remaining seeding positions then go by the world rankings, with world number one Judd Trump being the number three seed, world number two Kyren Wilson being the number four seed, etc.
All rounds of the competition will be played at the Brentwood Centre.
Who is playing at the 2025 English Open snooker?
A stellar cast is set for the £550,400 ranking event, with 14 of the world’s top 16 players in the draw; only Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins have opted out.
The last six editions of the English Open have been won by three players who have two titles each: Selby (2019, 2022), Trump (2020, 2023) and Robertson (2021, 2024) - and those three are scheduled for action in Essex. World number three Robertson returns to the baize for the first time since his Saudi Arabia Masters win in Jeddah, last month.

Kyren Wilson - recently crowned the Shanghai Masters champion for the second time in his career - is trying to chase down Trump and overtake him at the top of the rankings. That can’t be achieved at this event, but ‘The Warrior’ will be hoping to make inroads.
Xiao Guodong won the last stop on the World Snooker Tour; the Chinese cueist joined an elite club of players who successfully defended their ranking event title when he ousted Gary Wilson in a deciding frame in the final to retain the Wuhan Open.
Things haven’t gone according to plan for current Crucible crown holder Zhao since his historic world title win in May; he’ll be aiming to make a statement here and collect his maiden Home Nations Series accolade.
