The cheapness of the visuals and lack of convincing delivery from the voice actors ultimately knocks off a few marks, but on the whole it's a decent package that true aficionados of the genre will welcome as an interesting departure. ["Obscure"]

Like good frosting on a slightly stale cake. It's good and it's sweet at times, but it's awfully dry and hollow.

A solid survival horror game that takes the classic formula and adds a couple of cool innovations. It's more of an upgrade than an evolution, but the American high school setting feels fresh and is very well put together, with smooth graphics, a nice balance of shooting and exploration and a story that, while very generic, just about holds your attention.

Obscure no es un buen juego. No se puede decir mucho más, no da miedo, no es inmersivo y no tiene un diseño interesante. Me lo he pasado porque de pequeño se me quedó marcado uno de los bichos que salían en las revista de PlayManía.

If I were to make a list of 10 best survival horror games ever made, Obscure would definitely be on that list. It's on of those classic PS2 horror games, that helped define the genre. Obscure stands out, because of the setting, which is a high school and main characters are just ordinary teenagers. One of the most groundbreaking things this game had was local coop and if i'm not mistaken, it's the first survival horror game that had this. The game has a genius permadeath system - you play as 5 characters, if one of them dies, they die for good and you have to play as the rest of the characters that are still alive. If all of them die however, you get a game over. All of them have a unique ability that can help in game, so you should be very careful with your favourites. The game has an uneasy atmosphere, amazing sound design and unique monster design. The game is quite challenging at fir
st, the monsters hit REALLY hard and you have to be extremely cautious with your ammo and healing. It's a must have for any survival horror fanatics out there.

Un ottimo survival horror con anche una bella trama e alcuni bei ****. Molto divertente e appassionante da giocare specialmente insieme a un amico o col proprio fratello. Sicuramente è uno dei miei horror preferiti e ne ho giocati davvero tanti

The gameplay's got certain unavoidable flaws, but with a player-controlled camera, some more evocative set design, and another few hours' worth of gameplay, Obscure could've been one of the greats.

There's no better fodder for the boneheaded premise of old-school RE... than the high school slasher flick, and ObsCure serves it up right. [May 2005, p.50]

One of the best horror games that deserves a sequel or remaster on the new consoles.

It's very much like a video game equivalent of the teen-horror genre - whilst it does make you jump in places, it won't give you nightmares.

I think that the folks over at DreamCatcher may be on to something with the cool location and the introduction of multiplayer play, but the final end product left me wanting so much more.

It's an average survival horror game without any real scares. Sure the controls are nice and there are a couple of minor surprises, but the game feels dated and imagine less.

This ain't no "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill" but it has its appeal. Where I think it goes wrong is with the story which just kind of falls to pieces later in the game.

Horror muted by brevity and flat atmosphere... Imitating teen-horror movies is a novel idea, but duplicating their running time and feeble horror leaves the game wanting. [Nov 2004, p.106]

Best game series EVER. Instead of surviving the horrors of zombies and monsters as typical police or war veterans, you play as un experienced students who need to survive the horrors of Fallcreak. Great story, great graphics and great fun factor. Highly recommend it. We need a third game@!

If you want to be transported to the mid 2000s into a teen horror movie with cheesy characters, this is your game. The story is cool and the environments throughout the game are awesome. The graphics are pretty good and the gameplay feels solid

I don't know why the video game "press" mistreat this game a lot, until a few days ago I had the opportunity to play this game and its sequel and they seemed to me to be very good games in general.
in short, if you are not called silent hill you are destined to fail, very unfortunate what you see from the "specialized" media.
