Capacitor MF - MMFD Conversion Chart
When reading schematic diagrams, restoring radios and purchasing capacitors, you often must convert between MF, nF and MMFD.
Paper and electrolytic capacitors are usually expressed in terms of MF (micro farads). Short forms for micro farad include
MFD , mfd, uF, MF and UF. Mica capacitors are usually expressed in terms of MMFD (micromicro farads) (picofarads).
Short forms for micromicrofarads include MMFD , mmfd, pF, MMF, uuF and PF. A MMFD is one-millionth of a MF. In between a MF and
MMFD is nF which is one-one thousands of a MFD. Converting back and forth between MF, nF and MMFD can be confusing with
all those decimal points to worry about. Below is a MF - NF- MMFD conversion chart. Just print out a copy and tape it
to your work-bench ....it may come in handy. Have fun with your radio repairs and restorations.
