As the philanthropic partner of IEEE, the IEEE Foundation's mission is to expand the IEEE charitable body of work by inspiring philanthropic engagement that ignites a donors innermost interests and values.

What we aim to solve

Many of the world’s most pressing challenges require innovations in engineering. The need for engineers, STEM professionals, and engineering students is increasing globally, as important work for technologists increases. Consider these facts: 1) more than half of the population cannot access the Internet; 2) more than one-third of the world’s population do not have access to adequate sanitation; and 3) more than 1 billion people have no access to electrical power. These challenges are daunting and solvable, with the IEEE committed to playing a full role.

ILLUMINATE the Possibilities of Technology by Using it to Address Global Challenges

Technology is a propelling force that makes it possible to take action. It allows us to ask previously unimaginable questions and find solutions to unsolved problems. IEEE programs such as Smart Village, EPICS in IEEE, SIGHT, Empower a Billion Lives and MOVE, engage members, volunteers and students in conceptualizing and delivering technological solutions that positively impact lives world-wide.

The future of technology depends upon the nourishment of brilliant minds, the creation of opportunities, and the cultivation of a generation of socially responsible technology professionals. IEEE programs such as PES Scholarship Plus, TryEngineering, IEEE REACH and IEEE Science Kits for Public Libraries are designed to provide educational opportunities for pre-university students, university students and young professionals worldwide.
