Formed in 1985 in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK by Thom Yorke (vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboards), Ed O'Brien (guitar, vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass), Phil Selway (drums, backing vocals) and Rasmus Peterson (alto and tenor saxophones).

In 1988 was joined by Jonny Greenwood (originally keyboards) and two additional saxophone players Liz and Charlotte Cotton.

In late 1989 all three saxophone players left the band.

On A friday recorded a new demo a released it under new name Shindig (2), but soon after changed name back to On A Friday.

On 21 December 1991, On A Friday signed a six-album recording contract with EMI. At EMI's request, they changed their name to Radiohead; "Radiohead" was taken from the song "Radio Head" on the Talking Heads album "True Stories" (1986).
