The notes are extensive and reflect good scholarship, yet they are very clear and pastoral. In place after place, sophisticated notions are presented in stunningly simple language. I find myself often stopping to marvel at the lucid nature of the writing. Revelation after revelation - in the notes as well as the text. Altogether a great guide and companion.

Readable, good for youths

I've been using this as one of the many translations for my scripture studies. The footnotes give great insight, which was the primary reason I bought it, but be cautious! There are only a few footnotes I've found that fall far from the grain (e.g. God referred to as "she" in one footnote I found). Footnotes of any sort are not to be as trusted as the scriptures, reflect on your own discovery and insight...not in a way that you are no longer open to other ideas, but so that you are able to become intellectual yourself. Grow in knowledge of the Lord! Don't close him to a box.

Easy to read and understand compared to other bibles. Would definitely recommend.

This is a very interesting translation, with a number of distinctive differences from other translations that cause one to understand the text in a new way. Notably, the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5. It is well worth a place on your book shelf. This particular edition, however, is printed on paper stock that is too thin or translucent, resulting in the image from the previous page being visible overleaf. I have found this very distracting.

Love the commentary in this Bible. this is fourth copy I have bought over the years. However, this print is a tad smaller than former books. I would like to have a leather covered bible of this size.

It bought this after a catechist I work with was using it. Great intro and the explanations for the passages are fantastic. Would buy it for any teen or adult

I have a variety of different translations of the bible; this one is a wonderful translation, easy to read and understandable.

easy to use

The Bible and the words are all there is just a slight imperfection of the binding material is torn and the top bit a little damaged . I had hoped for the larger text version . See pictures below .

Great notes, easily read. However the lack of a front index (its hidden at the back) just makes it a bit more difficult to easily find chapters, the more so as they are arranged in a different order to most bibles. Still well worth buying and using for the notes that are illuminating.

Just a quick word to mention that I bought 2 of these Bibles and they were the very old 1988 4th edition. I have two other editions of this Bible (bought 2004 29th and bought about 2009 about 35th edition). I don't know how the editions affect the translation itself or the footnotes as I didn't get the time to compare the versions.

The Bible has lots of footnotes which are aimed at the ordinary Catholic reader, although some are a bit liberal.

Overall a very good Bible to have, but try to get a more recent edition.
