Finland's postal service, Posti, on Wednesday said it is reducing up to 172 positions prompted by a shifting market. Most cuts will affect sorting at the Helsinki mail centre, where automation is being introduced.
Customer service will be concentrated in Posti's largest service centres, in Helsinki and Rovaniemi. According to the company, automation already handles around 60 percent of customer contacts received through digital channels, with digitalisation and artificial intelligence playing an increasingly prominent role.
In Rovaniemi, the so-called Santa Claus Main Post Office will continue operating. Postal services will also remain in place at Helsinki's Main Post Office building.
Telia Finland has also launched restructuring talks that could result in the loss of up to 200 jobs out of roughly 2,000 positions under review.
The Nordic and Baltic telecoms giant said it is simplifying its organisation to cut costs and streamline operations. The changes will not affect consumer customer service or Telia shops.
Telia employs around 3,000 people in Finland.
