While femoral tunnel malposition is widely recognized as the main technical error of failed anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery, tibial tunnel malposition is likely underrecognized and underappreciated.

Purpose
To describe more precisely the qualitative and quantitative anatomy of the ACL's tibial attachment in vitro using widely available technology for stereophotogrammetric surface reconstruction, and to test its applicability in vivo.

Methods
Stereophotogrammetric surface reconstruction was obtained from fourteen proximal tibias of cadaver donors. Measurements of areas and distances from the center of the ACL footprint and the footprint of the obtained bundles to selected arthroscopically-relevant anatomic landmarks were carried out using a three-dimensional design software program, and means and 95% confidence intervals were calculated for these measurements. Reference landmarks were tested in three-dimensional models obtained with arthroscopic videos.

Main findings
The osseous footprint of the ACL was described in detail, including its precise elevated limits, size, and shape, with its elevation pattern described as a quarter-turn-staircase-like ridge. Its internal indentations were related to inter-spaces identified as bundle divisions. Distances from the footprint center to arthroscopically relevant landmarks were obtained and compared to its internal structure, yielding a useful X-like landmark pointing to the most accurate placeholder for the ACL footprint's “anatomic” center. Certain structures and reference landmarks described were readily recognized in three-dimensional models from arthroscopic videos.

Conclusions
Stereophotogrammetric surface reconstruction is an accessible technique for the investigation of anatomic structures in vitro, offering a detailed three-dimensional depiction of the ACL's osseous footprint.

Results.-
SNPs and admixture analyses of ancient and modern DNA samples have been used together with recent archaeological and linguistic data to obtain a more precise general picture of the evolution of Eurasian cultures, peoples, and languages related to Indo-European languages.
The Indo-European demic diffusion model proposed advances the theory that the expansion of Indo-European languages from the steppe was mainly linked to the expansion of peoples belonging to haplogroup R1b in Eurasia. A North-West Indo-European group most likely expanded directly with western Yamna migrants into the East Bell Beaker culture, and the Corded Ware culture was probably not linked to the expansion of Indo-European languages. That challenges previous archaeological and linguistic theories concerning the dialectal evolution of Late Proto-Indo-European.

Potential consequences of this new model in archaeological and linguistic investigation are outlined, among them the development of a stable framework of time and space for Indo-European dialectal classification, allowing for a more precise dating of Indo-European branches and their splits and expansions, and why and how they might have occurred.

What was initially described by Krahe as an Old European community based on studies of European hydronymy, and what was described through comparative grammar as a North-West Indo-European group of dialects – sharing common lexical and grammatical traits –, is now more clearly defined as an ancient Indo-European proto-language that expanded at least twice from two small regions during the third millennium: from the North Pontic steppe to the Carpathian basin in the first half, and from the Danube to the rest of Europe in the second half.

Its definition and reconstruction is important not only for the reconstruction and classification of European languages that derive from this parent language, but for a better definition of Graeco-Aryan proto-languages, and of the parent Late Proto-Indo-European language.
