Have just read Michele Dunne's article "Egypt Now" which is based on wishful thinking rather than wh...at is really going on. How could she get it so wrong? Basically because her assumptions on which she builds her entire argument are false: Assumption 1) Egypt today draws many "disturbing" similarities to late 2010 taking the country into "unchartered waters". It is clear Ms Dunne has not been in Egypt while she wrote this assumption! Assumption 2) "struggles between the military and businessmen for economic and political power, human rights abuses, ... and jihadi groups in Sinai. Does she back up any of these sweeping statements with any substantive facts and figures? NO. Assumption 3) "upheaval might be brewing" - again a wishful thinking statement rather than a statement based on any facts and figures. Please tell her that the Egyptian people have wisened up as to WHO is trying to foment another upheaval and will not fall for it, in spite of all the foreign funding that goes into certain groups to do just that. Assumption 4) Composition of Parliament "does not represent all Egyptians" and "various forms of exclusion". Does Congress represent ALL Americans? ALL 300 million plus? The MBs and Salafists were simply not voted in, i.e. the people who voted did not go for them. I thought the US loves democracy which it wants to shove down the throat of all the countries it has destabilized! Well, this was a democratic act on the part of the people, so why now call it an "exclusion"? Assumption 5) Youth is "repressed" and "manipulated". Could she please substantiate that statement? Assumption 6) the ousting of Mosri was a "coup" in 2013 - now we in Egypt call it the REAL revolution, as over 30 MILLION people went out to remove him - a most democratic act, in fact a FIRST in the entire world and deserves to go into the Guinness Book of Records! Ms Dunne got only two facts right, namely that the Freedom and Justice Party was outlawed and that the Salafists representation in Parliament has dropped. Is Ms Dunne aware of all the bloodshed that Egyptians have been subjected to after the ousting of Morsi to ask for a "reconciliation"? I suggest she chooses her sources and references carefully before writing anything about Egypt, if this article is anything to go by. Ещё
