International Cricket Council

The tournament will be jointly held across Australia and New Zealand in February and March 2015. The first matches will be played in Christchurch and Melbourne on 14 February, with the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 29 March.

Fourteen teams will participate in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. The initial phase will involve two pools of seven teams playing in a round-robin format. The top four teams from each pool will proceed to the knock out stage of the tournament, which will comprise quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final. There will be no third place play-off. Australia has won the tournament four times (1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007). The West Indies (1975, 1979) and India (1983, 2011) have won twice, while Pakistan (1992) and Sri Lanka (1996) have each won once. For more about the history of the tournament, please click here.

The tournament is contested by all ten Full Member nations of the International Cricket Council (ICC), together with four other nations that become eligible through the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifying programme. For more information about the qualifying programme, please click here.

The ICC conducts a formal selection process which begins with an invitation to submit bids to host the ICC Cricket World Cup. Australia and New Zealand were awarded tournament hosting rights in 2006 as part of a process which also saw the ICC award hosting rights to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The 2019 tournament will be hosted by England and Wales.

The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy is presented to the winner of the tournament final. The current trophy was created for the 1999 championships, and was the first permanent prize in the tournament's history; prior to this, different trophies were made for each ICC Cricket World Cup. The trophy was designed and produced in London by a team of craftsmen from Garrard & Co over a period of two months.

The current trophy is made from silver and gilt, and features a golden globe held up by three silver columns. The columns, shaped as stumps and bails, represent the three fundamental aspects of cricket: batting, bowling and fielding, while the globe characterises a cricket ball. It stands 60cm high and weighs approximately 11kg. The names of the previous winners are engraved on the base of the trophy, with space for a total of twenty inscriptions.

The original trophy is kept by the ICC. A replica, which differs only in the inscriptions, is permanently awarded to the winning team.

Each element of the logo contributes to building the story of the ICC's flagship event featuring the best players. It combines the following motifs:

- Maori Tohora symbolizing toughness, pride and tribal culture

- Aboriginal journey tracks symbolising spirit of the land
