Regarding the post "Clean Energy 2030: Google’s Green Energy Future Revealed -- It’ll Save U.S. $1 Trillion"

Anthony said:

$4.4 trillion isn't actually that much money. In the US today we burn more than 3 terrawatts worth of fossil fuels, for both our vehicles and our electricity. With 2% annual growth our economy in 2030 will be 50% larger than it is today. That works out to just $1-$3 per watt for the whole plan.

Regarding the post "EV1 Electric Car: Did it Suck or Not?"

MDReagan said:

I have well over 85,000 miles driving an Ev1. The distortion of facts about this car are just amazing! First any new car is going to cost a bundle to put together, especially one that involes a whole new technology. Even a new gas car is about 1 billion. Which is what GM has been quoted as losing on the Ev1. Did you know GM got over 120 new patents on electric vehicle technology? Any guess on what that might be worth? As far as range, I never ran my Ev1 to the end. I did 120 once, but did 115mi almost every weekend coming back from Cal City to Moorpark 230round trip). Usually had 15-30% left, this was with the flow of traffic. I had my Nimh car for the whole 3 years allowed, never had a battery failure and the pack was only down less than 3% from new. Did you know some of the Ev+ Hondas had over 200,000 miles on original batteries? As far as my electric bill, it cost about $33 dollars a month to charge but I drove a lot. It was about the same even if you drove more or less. My car was so dependable I drove it toCarson City Nevada over hwy 395 to do some soaring in Minden. Yes I had to stop and charge at RV parks but what fun I had!! Remember this is not what the car was designed for. The daily commute was more fun than you can imagine, especially at $1.20 per day. Once GM destroyed all the evidence it sure is easy to distort the facts! Mike + Diana Reagan

Regarding the post "BuyGreen: Women's Jeans"

embear said:

I personally don't find those jeans too terribly expensive. I usually pay 150 or so[if i go to the outlet] for my designer jeans. I would much rather spend that money on eco friendly jeans. A good pair of jeans should cost more than 50 dollars. An excellent pair of jeans should cost more than 100 dollars. You will seriously see a difference from my Target jeans and my designer jeans and no it's not a label. My Target jeans have already lost most of their color and have stretched out to the max!

Regarding the post "Wal-Mart Goes on a Plastic Diet: 9 Million Plastic Bags to Be Eliminated From Waste Stream"

squawkfox said:

It's so easy to go without plastic bags. I really don't understand why bringing a reusable bag is so complicated for some. Don't like bags? Use bins! I keep my reusable bag in my purse or on my bike.

I live on an organic ranch and I see these terrible plastic bags blow into our fields and harm our crops. They fly into the trees, throughout the forest, and clog our water supply.

I wrote this plea: 50 Reasons to Go Green with Reusable Shopping Bags

I agree with many, I wish WalMart would start sooner rather than later.

Regarding the post "Green at WIRED NextFest: Paper that Self-Erases After 24 Hours XEROX"

Carl Foner said:

Any ideas to save paper would be great. But running paper back through the printer doesn't always work so well. Especially after a few times. Printers really prefer crisp paper. When it's not crisp, it has a tendency to get jammed more easily.

In regards to the above comment about the carbon footprint of all the new printers: Assuming the idea makes it to market, I don't think everyone would suddenly replace all of their printers. I would assume that they would buy them in the normal cycle of things, ie when they break or when extra printers are needed .

It's great to see that open source-based tools used to build and create communities around sustainability are finally getting recognition. I am a Sun employee and have been involved with this project since we started it. I’ve worked with our partners and supporters who have been key in making this community flourish and grow. It’s also great to be working for a company that supports and believes in communities, open source technologies and helping businesses move towards a sustainable future.
Although http://OpenEco.org/ is still a growing community, we are excited to soon be launching V2.0 which will have a comprehensive set of tools and functionality allowing organizations (or individuals) to fully manage, track and assess their carbon footprint. We'll also have new reporting options! Come back and visit us in early November or sign up for our quarterly newsletter to be notified.

Regarding the post "Honda's All-New Honda Insight Hybrid: Fuel Economy Similar to Civic Hybrid"

Why doesn't Honda release the Honda City in the US? From what I've heard it can achieve 60+mpg (US gallons) in a mixed driving scenario. And that's with 4 passengers. That puts most hybrids to shame.
