  • The city of Mediterranean impressions

Even the prehistoric men found shelter and a place to settle in this region. Protected by the Mecsek, the Roman Sopianae had grown to a city 2000 years ago. This settlement turned into one of the administrative centres of Pannonia by the end of the 3rd century AD.

  • Early Christian Necropolis of Pcs (2000)

The World Heritage Committee justified its inscription of the 4th century early Christian cemetery from the Roman era town of Sopianae - the present day Pcs - on the list of historio-cultural treasures by stating that the excavated building ensemble embodies an extraordinarily varied and complex example of early Christian funerary art and architecture in the northern and western roman provinces.

The Christogram is the chosen symbol of the World Heritage of Pcs. The first official symbol of Ckristianity is present at the Peter-Paul crypt too. In 2000, during the excavation of the V. crypt, archeologists discovered as part of a bronze church lantern - assumed of Byzantine form and origin.

Dear Visitor!

BERJAYA

Welcome to the Pcs website.

Our 2000-year-old city has had many names in the past, and given the city's variety I am sure all of them have been appropriate. Pcs is a city of students, of vineyards and wine, a city of Mediterranean impressions, a gateway to the Balkans, to mention a few. And I would like to add the city's latest achievement: Pcs will be the European Capital of Culture in 2010. This, I hope, will be enough to encourage everybody to visit our city.
