Mailbag Madness
Fabian Nicieza drops by and Rich reveals the truth about the X-Men.
Rich here with some more letters from all y'all. We have a variety of responses, including one from Fabian Nicieza, writer of
Action Comics (any comic book creators should feel free to). We also dive into late books, reviews,
Countdown and much more. As always, you can send us feedback by clicking on the name of an author in any article, or by scrolling to the bottom of any article and clicking where it says "Contact the Editors." Be sure to tell us what you're referring to, as we aren't told what article you were in when you sent the mail. Enjoy!
Stubborn and Unfair
Dan, you are stubborn and unfair.
There, you asked me to call you that, so I did.
:-)
- Fabian Nicieza
Hey Fabian!
I just wanted to let you know that I got a real kick out of your response to my review of Action Comics #849. I'm a big fan of your work (especially A Midsummer's Nightmare), so it was a thrill to hear your feedback on my snarky review. It's also nice to learn that a writer of your stature still maintains a sense of humor about your work, and it's a pleasure to exchange some good-natured ribbing with ya.
As far as your Action story goes, although I didn't exactly shower it with praise, I at least made it known that, despite being a fill-in, it was still quite good. How about we convince the big guys at DC to give you an extended run or a miniseries instead? Thanks for your response, and thanks for reading!

Lost
can anybody tell me whats the deal with the wildcats comic ?
- Rob
Hi I was just wondering what ever happend to Ultimate hulk vs wolverine?? Do they still plain on making the rest or just the two that have come out
- Pauly
Hey Pauly and Rob,
Sadly we have no idea. Wildcats was hit by the workloads of Jim Lee and Grant Morrison. We don't know of any solid release date for that series. When DC announces it, and we're guessing they'll clear that up at a convention soon enough, we'll let you know. As far as Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine (and Ultimates 3 for that matter), that's up in the air as well. With Lost ending this evening, we're sure Damon Lindelof has some time on his hands
whether he actually finishes writing the series is totally up to him. There's also the complication of Leinil Yu being on New Avengers and that takes priority. So we'll see.

X-Men Deaths
I just have to say that with all the massive Marvel events recently and the sheer cut down of so many characters through depowering and death, that endangered species looks like the end entirely for me. I am over seeing character after character die. They have cheapened the effect by killing too many off in recent years. Also, how many mega-arcs and crossovers do we need? After House of M, Deadly Genesis, The Rise and Fall of the Shiar Empire, Planet Hulk, Spiderman - Back in Black, Decimation, Civil War, The Initiative and then World War Hulk, etc., how can I care again? I did exclude Fallen Son as it was great but I bet it turns to crap down the track. I have personally cut out all but Astonishing X-Men and X-Factor from my buy list now. The rest is rubbish these days anyway. Wolverine Origins is the single worst comic book series Marvel have ever produced. The rest of Wolverine has been av erage recently and he is just overexposed. What the hell, why not just kill the lot? It'd save me money.
- Matt
are alot of X-Men really gonna die? oh well they all seem to come back to life anyway!lol
- Austin
I think it is definitely the return of the Marauders. Maybe a whole new team or maybe some of the classics returning. We have seen some of them rise from the dead before (Riptide) and if sinister is involved you can bet that the Marauders are going to be involved...possibly leading them is Sinister's old pawn - Gambit?
- Matt
Alright, alright, alright
I have a confession to make. And an accusation! First off, I was completely aware of the grey-haired Wolverine and the fact that this is a scene from the future. That scene doesn't signify these characters are actually going to die, though that is their ultimate fate if the X-Men don't start planning how to reverse the Scarlet Witch's actions (if they can at all anyway).
That said, this is all Marvel's fault. They sent me the image and put me up to the whole thing! I'm spineless, so I went along with it. Honestly, above all else, I like to get people talking. Sometimes I'll do it in a slightly sneaky manner as I did here. Most of the time I'm very honest - I actually revealed the truth during the weekend on the IGN Comics message boards. There is a teaser coming later this week that is absolutely true though. I'll also be more careful to frame things as speculation since I don't want you guys to start doubting everything we post.
But blame Marvel. It's their fault. Sorry, Jim! -laughs-
Thanks for writing, Matt, Austin and
Matt. By the way Austin, you got me laughing with your comment.

Countdown Identities
Hey I was reading countdown #50 and in it Jimmy Olsen refers to Nightwing as Dick Grayson. How does he know Nightwing's secret identity, and if he does, how does he not know Batman's secret identity? Or does he? I only know the basics of Jimmy Olsen but I never thought he knew secret identitys. Does know Superman's?
- Phil
That is a wonderful question! The answer is
oh, we can't tell you. Everything you see in Countdown, even if it seems to contradict what you knew, is being done deliberately. At least so far
Stay tuned!

I really like your comic section. You guys are the only site where I can find reliable comic news from a big credible sight. My one thing is that when you review your comics you do a good job but you don't review every book that comes out. I know that there are many books that come out each week but I check back later and I can't find the reviews (I really want to know what you guys thought of the final issue of the last arc of POWERS). On the lighter note I owe you guys big for getting me to read the relaunch of JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA as well as Mike Carey's and Chris Bachalo's run on the X-MEN, as well as SCALPED which is my first Vertigo book. Thanks for having a good comic section on your website.
- Kevin
Glad to hear you're finding a lot of good content on the site, Kevin! When it comes to reviews, we try to tackle as many of the major books as we can. Typically some of the smaller books fall off the radar as we try to get these things out at a (somewhat) reasonable hour. Feel free to ping us when you feel we're consistently overlooking something. In the case of Powers, it's something I've wanted to read for a long time, but I've never had the time to catch up. One suggestion I'd have is to take a look at our message boards. You can find them by clicking here. Every Wednesday the readers put up a thread where they offer their opinions on books, spoiler free, to help everyone else out there. Between the site's reviews and the reader reviews, you can't go wrong. Oh, and the boards are free! Can't beat that.
That's all the time we have today! Thanks for writing in!
