Yep. The Halo 3 LE Discs Come Pre-Scratched
- BERJAYA 4 Comments
It appears that the problem with scratched up game discs in the Halo 3 Limited Editions are more widespread than originally thought, as TeamXbox, GameDaily and GameSpot all received bad copies.

You'd figure that for $70-130, they could've afforded to add a sleeve for the disc.

Halo 3 Forge Editor Preview
- BERJAYA 2 Comments
Suddenly those Halo 3 levels make sense. They were designed for a gamepad, with a gamepad. Kidding! Shacknews took a look at the Forge level editor which comes free with Halo 3.
If you're a Halo fan, by this point you have surely heard at least something about Forge, the map-tweaking utility Bungie is including out of the box with Halo 3. At first glance, it seems like a very limited tool. You cannot edit any fundamental map geometry, you can only place or remove various accoutrements such as weapons and vehicles, crates and other ornamentation, spawn points and objectives, and so on.

Don't trust that first glance, however--it only scratches the surface of what is truly available when you start to delve deep into Forge.

Slashdot Gives Halo 3 a 4/5 Review Score
- BERJAYA 10 Comments
Is Halo 3 mortal after all? Slashdot seems to think so, as they gave Halo 3 a 4/5 review score.
From a certain point of view, Halo 3 is without a doubt the biggest game of the year. The combination of fan anticipation, marketing, and the skill of Bungie's design combine to create a game that's larger than life; if gaming has a blockbuster franchise to match the movie industry's punch, it's the tale of Master Chief. The importance of the Halo franchise to gaming is a very big issue, though, and one worth it's own article. Having played through the game, there's really only one question I'm here to answer today. Does it meet expectations? In a word: yes. It's not the best game ever made, and it may not even be the best game this year.

Halo 3 Midnight Sale Locations
- BERJAYA 11 Comments
Wondering where to go to get Halo 3 at the stroke of Midnight? Microsoft was kind enough to publish a list, or at least links to lists of stores who'll be open and selling the game at 12:01 am local time. There's a depressing lack of Midnight sellers around these parts (Phx, AZ).

Halo 3: 4,200,000 Copies at launch?
- BERJAYA 17 Comments
GameSpot predicts that Microsoft will ship some 4.2 million copies of Halo 3 before the end of the month, in the hopes of beating Halo 2's launch numbers.
In a company update on Microsoft today, Goldman Sachs analysts Sarah Friar and Frederick Grieb predicted that Microsoft will have shipped a mighty 4.2 million copies of Halo 3 into the retail channel by the end of the month. That's a big-enough launch shipment for more than a third of the Xbox 360's 11.6 million global user base to pick up a copy.

Those raw numbers don't measure up to those posted by the launch of Halo 2, the analysts said, but there were a number of reasons for the prior game to have a stronger launch. For one thing, the original Xbox had a larger installed user base of almost 20 million when Halo 2 came out in November of 2004. Halo 2 sold nearly 2.4 million copies on its first day on the market, and Friar and Grieb estimate that Microsoft had shipped 7.5 million copies by the end of the year, which would have accounted for 38 percent of the installed user base.

How many copies of Halo 3 does Microsoft need to sell to break even in its Xbox division?

In-House Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts Screenshots
- BERJAYA 12 Comments
For the last few days I've been blasting through Opposing Fronts, the Company of Heroes standalone expansion pack that really should be called a sequel thanks to the inclusion of two new factions, two new single-player campaigns, and a whole load of new multiplayer maps, plus engine refinements, increased texture detail, and more! It's one of the best real-time strategy games I've ever played, and while I'm not ready to pass final judgement until I've played some MP against the public, I'd definitely recommend going out and purchasing it, especially as it's only forty bones.

Here are nine 1280x1024 screenshots taken with all settings cranked to the max to tide you over until my full take on the game is posted:

- BERJAYA 17 Comments
Valve sends word that it has teamed up with GameStop to offer Half-Life 2: The Orange Box pre-orders for folks who want to play Team Fortress 2 early, but aren't down with buying the game on Steam. Just as a note, the early access to TF2 is for the PC version only:
Valve and GameStop today announced that those who pre-purchase the PC edition of The Orange Box at GameStop, the world's largest video game and entertainment software retailer, before October 10th will save 10% off the regular price and gain access to the beta version of Team Fortress 2 for the PC.

The Orange Box, penned by IGN as ".the package which could legitimately be called the deal of the century," features three highly-awaited new games by Valve: Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the second installment in the Half-Life 2 episodic trilogy; Team Fortress 2, the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map; and Portal, the game that blends puzzles, first person action, and adventure gaming to produce an experience like no other.

To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life 2: Episode One-together, more than 30 hours of award-winning gameplay. Customers who already own these titles will have the ability to conveniently "gift" them to a friend upon official release of The Orange Box.

Starting immediately, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box for PC at any GameStop retail store in the US will receive a key-code and instructions to download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 from Steam. The beta will conclude with the release of The Orange Box on October 10th. This year's most anticipated online action game, Team Fortress 2 delivers new game types, a signature art style powered by Valve's next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more.

The Orange Box will have a suggested retail price of $49.95 on the PC and $59.95 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 console systems. The 10% pre-purchase discount also applies to all three versions at GameStop and participating retail outlets.

Saints Row 2 Announced
- BERJAYA 12 Comments
Out 2008 with online co-op play:

THQ Inc. today announced Saints Row 2, sequel to the multi-million unit selling title that redefined open-world gaming for next-generation consoles, is scheduled to deliver all new, genre-defining features and game play for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system and PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system in 2008. Developed by THQs critically acclaimed internal studio Volition, Inc. using their proprietary open-world engine, Saints Row 2 will offer vastly expanded customization options, a totally transformed and expanded city of Stilwater, all new vehicles, sandbox tools and toys as well as both online co-op and competitive multiplayer.

Saints Row set the bar for next-gen open-world development, earning praise for its unmatched customization, controls, and the genres first-ever online multiplayer, said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of sales and marketing, THQ. The team at Volition, Inc. is leveraging invaluable experience gained on Saints Row to build Saints Row 2 into a game that sets the standard for combat, player freedom, customization, vehicle game-play, team-based co-op and the most compelling online open world experience to date.

Saints Row 2 has a much darker and more sinister story that leads your character down a path of betrayal, revenge and redemption against the city that has left him for dead, although weve blended that with the same light-hearted humor from the original. said Greg Donovan, lead producer, Volition, Inc. Couple that with the most robust open-world feature set ever developed in the genre, and Saints Row 2 promises a gaming experience that will offer players the perfect balance of gripping narrative and compelling gameplay options.

EA Reveals Dead Space
- BERJAYA 7 Comments
Space-based Resident Evil-esque title from EA announced:

Electronic Arts Inc. today announced that the award-winning EA Redwood Shores Studio has been developing an original intellectual property that will introduce a new experience to the sci-fi horror genre. In the brilliant, bold and often-bloody Dead Space gamers will step into a third-person sci-fi survival horror experience that promises to deliver the ultimate in psychological thrills and gruesome action.

Set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror. In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship. It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ships crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.

Executive Producer Glen Schofield commented, This team has worked on some tremendous properties but we have always wanted to work on something that was darker and creepier. We are all such huge fans of the horror and sci-fi genres; we wanted to create the most terrifying game we could, and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time.

Under development at EA Redwood Shores, Dead Space is expected to ship in Fall 2008 for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system.

Whoa! A Negative Halo 3 Review!
- BERJAYA 87 Comments
Veteran writer Tom Chick concocted rather acidic review of Halo 3's single player campaign calling it a colossal disappointment. Yikes! Why am I getting Halo 2 flashbacks?...
It's hard to look past the blatant corridor level design. I use the term quite literally. Bungie gets a lot of mileage out of reusing entire areas. You'll get a few instances of "go here and do this", followed by "now go back where you were before through respawned monsters, which will save our level designers some time". At one point, you have to revisit a copy of an area. Bungie makes no bones about it. Three teams split up, each to pull a lever in an identical area. What do you know? One of the teams couldn't make it so you get to replay exactly the same area to pull exactly the same lever!

Then there's the "ledge" level design. It's really a corridor, but if you drop one side off into a skybox, it makes it seem more open. Mombasa? Ha ha. Right. I've seen a more convincing Africa in low-budget studio backlots.

Just one more day until Halo 3 goes live. I know the game is supposed to be a multiplayer juggernaught, but I really hope the single player part doesn't suck. Believe it or not, I do enjoy that stuff...

Today's question:

Should high profile games (or any, for that matter) get a free pass on crappy single player content if the multiplayer shines? Or Vice versa...
