BioShock PC Review @ VE
- BERJAYA 35 Comments
After bioplaying our bioasses off over the weekend comes our review of the PC version of BioShock. Overall score was pretty high, but we weren't ready to prounouce it to be the biobestest game ever. I tried to make the review as spoiler free as possible, in case you haven't bioplayed it yet yourself. I didn't mention the widescreen stuff or activation crap either, because quite frankly, it didn't bother me... Here's a snip off the top:
Rumor has it that BioShock was originally pitched as a World War II shooter set on a desert island chock full of Nazis. As appealing as Nazis on an Island sounds (almost as catchy as Snakes on a Plane) it didnt attract much publisher interest. Thankfully, Irrational ditched that iteration of BioShock and moved onto something a little more original. Eventually, Take Two picked the game up, bought Irrational and turned the studio into 2K Boston and 2K Australia, respectively. Microsoft scored the exclusive rights to the game, and the rest is history.
You can of course grade the game yourself as well.

HL2: Orange Box "Pretty Much Finished"
- BERJAYA 14 Comments
Game Informer wrangled up an interview with Valve's Gabe Newell about a number of Half-Life related things, including news that "The Orange Box" is pretty much finished. Right now, they're in bug squashing and final polishing phase. Gabe also looks forward to Episode 3:
GI: With Episode Two, obviously dates slip, things slip, but Episode Two was supposed to be out by last Christmas. Now were at this point, which at the end of the day gamers are happy theyre getting not only Episode Two but Portal and Team Fortress 2. Are you think that youll try to do another package deal with Episode Three or is that too far ahead to look at.

Newell: We have multiple teams doing multiple things simultaneously, and these three happened to line up. As we have these slots develop itll determine which things get combined together. Our next big one is Left 4 Dead, and thatll be great by itself. It just sort of depends on what comes together. Having multiple small projects in development simultaneously, theres a little bit of kismet involved in what ends up getting bunched together.

The Vede Works At Voodoo
- BERJAYA 18 Comments
Some shocking news for you today, as PC Gamer US Editor-in-Chief Greg Vederman announced effective Friday, he is no longer with the magazine. Where did he turn up? According to HP Gaming's Rahul Sood's website, he is now VoodooPC's Business Development Manager (thanks Firing Squad).

Here's the note he posted:

My name is Greg Vederman. This past Friday I was running PC Gamer magazine as its Editor-in-Chief, and today Im working at Voodoo/HP as a Business Development Manager. What in the world possessed me to make such a leapand to not even take a single day off before the transition?!

In a word: Vision

HP has a bold, electrifying vision for the future of PC gaming that I couldnt help but want to be a part of. Several months ago, Rahul asked me to come aboard and lend a helping hand, and though the decision to do so was not an easy one (choosing to leave a job youve poured your heart and soul into for nearly a decade is never easy), it was unequivocally the right one.

I cant yet go into detail about what weve got planned, but suffice it to say, its big, and its exciting, and its going to be a hell of a lot of fun for us, but more importantly, for you. Stay tuned!

I'm guessing over priced / custom painted gaming rigs are about to become mainstream? (grin)

I finished up BioShock over the weekend. While it wasnt perfect by any stretch of the imagination (Ill save my criticisms for the review) I think its safe to proclaim BioShock to be the best looking game to ever grace the PC. Im not so sure about the 360 though...

Todays question:

What has better (360) graphics: BioShock or Gears of War?

Halo 3 Hands-on
- BERJAYA 14 Comments
TeamXbox wrangled up some hands-on impressions of Halo 3 after getting treated to some trigger time with a near final copy of the game.
The single-player presentation was still devoid of anything remotely involving Halo 3s storyline. You wont find a cutscene or any dialogue in Bungies single-player reveals; just some PR mumbo-jumbo about having the chance of rendezvousing with Cortana. We dont care for storyline spoilers anyways, so we focused our attention on the gameplay of Bungies final installment (yeah, right) of this stupendous series.
The excitment overflows!

Ok, the 81x81 km maps in Supreme Commander really piss me off. Why do they include maps that you can't actually play on without crashing? Even with the Mad Boris trick it still runs out of memory; just not as fast.. The Supreme beast cannot be sated!

Today's question:

What's the last gaming related thing that really pissed you off?

P.S. - The World in Conflict demo is today!
