New Fan Art[ Comment ] 12:16 PST | Dario | Print NewsHere's the latest to be added to our ever-growing Fan Art section. Thanks to McBob, asiff, and Skildor for submitting these!
Red Europe - First Blog Posted[ Comment ] 11:07 PST | Dario | Print NewsThe very first development blog from the recently announced Red Europe total conversion for C&C; 3 has been posted. It's got some tidbits on special abilities, the backstory, and most importantly, two new screenshots. Check them out:
A Daz from somewhere in the UK writes in to announce that he's written a few informative guides on key C&C3; modding tasks, focusing mainly on working with 3D models. There don't seem to be any other published yet.
There's also one on getting DX9 shaders to work, an essential part of any game or mod thesedays.
Info is scarce at the moment, but screenshots of a highly detailed Light Infantry soldier and Construction Yard are available on their website at http://www.tiberian-genesis.org/
Another update from TheGunrun about his pet mod, C&C; Retarded has informed me (to tell you) that v0.03 has just been released (that's a fast release schedule considering v0.01 was released last Saturday on the 25th).
To quote from the master:
C&C; Retarded is the continuation of the "Retarded" mod series for C&C; Generals Zero Hour. This mod, unlike anyone else's, is created by just one person. I like to use my ability to understand the code behind the game to manipulate it to the way I see as being the most fun. For me I don't care what I do to a game, as long as in the end it is the most fun experience possible.
v0.03 is what I currently have done for my mod, but not in anyway where I plan to stop.
The reason I'm releasing these 0.0x versions are to see what you guys think of my changes. The comments I receive about the mod help me make the mod better and more balanced.

Apoc has sent out an e-mail reminding us all that today is Command & Conquer's dodecatennial, or 12th anniversary. He promises that September will be a month filled with adventure and awesome, and that a non-revolutionary "special surprise" will be going up today on the official C&C; website. As it's only 0800h at EALA, we should expect a surprise to arrive shortly... Click "Read More" for Apoc's full e-mail.
The Gaming League (TGL) is launching what appears to be the world's first C&C3; Teamplay league with support for 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 games. The first competition set includes prizes from Steel Series (makers of fine pointing device accessories).
More information is available on their website, any queries can be sent directly to the co-ordinator, Saman 'eXcuvator' Darougheh via email, MSN Messenger (same address as email), and ICQ (177952059).
I am officially back from the Leipzig Games Convention, back in the Community Manager hot seat here in my cozy darkened cubicle. After a nice 14 hour flight back from Germany to Los Angeles, I decided to take the day off yesterday in order to let the jet lag pass by so I'm not talking on the message boards like a zombie. That said, I've spent all day playing catch-up on some 10,000 e-mails, but thankfully, Producer Greg Kasavin did a fantastic job as expected keeping you guys updated on the patches and MOD SDK releases. I have to say, I'm delighted that we were able to publish the "HOTFIX" Patch 1.08 quickly, I've said it before, but we are passionate and committed to growing and supporting the C&C; community.
Just some quick updates on the hot issues at hand:
- The list of bugs from patch 1.07 and 1.08 that has been generated in multiple threads is being heavily analyzed by our development team here. As always, we will look at the bugs and determine the critical level of each and consider fixes for future patches such as patch 1.09. Our goal going forward is to address critical game-breaking or balance- breaking bugs, when or if they occur, and the most critical balance fixes at hand. Later in September, I will provide more insight into the changes for Patch 1.09 that you can expect.
- Additions and fixes to the MOD SDK are under heavy consideration as well right now. We are looking at the top issues and working to understand what are the most important areas for fixes or more information. We have a fix in place for the low LOD setting issue, and a better UI example for creating menus. I am compiling information for other such related issues and will post in one cohesive update as soon as possible.
- The C&C; League Season 1 is extremely close to blasting off now...finally, hopefully before patch 1.20 right? Friendly joke. I have just been waiting on final rules from our legal department, everything else is in place. I will make sure to give you guys lead time so you have time to prepare for the ladder reset. It will not happen this week, but I expect starting some time next week will be optimal. The first season of our league will be host to $10,000 in cash prizes and some other great goodies. It is going to be a fantastic inaugural season!
- The next episode of Battlecast Primetime will likely occur later in September. We shot a lot of great footage at Leipzig and will be bringing you some very special segments and exclusive looks at Kane's Wrath, and speaking of which...
- More info on Kane's Wrath will be forthcoming in September. Enjoy the tidbits from Leipzig and the shaky cams, but you can expect a huge dose of info and media in September.
The usuals bans and suspensions weekly round-up will be hammered down again this week, the mods are doing a great job collecting names. So do not fear, the 60 from two weeks ago was just the beginning of what will be a weekly maintenance. Don't think because I was gone last week that you are safe :o)
I'll be on the boards more regularly as usual starting tomorrow, and maybe even some late night fun tonight.
BTW, if you have ideas or initiatives for things you'd like to see more of from myself as the Community Manager, our website, etc, things outside the normal patch requests, please do not hesitate to post some ideas.
Glad to be back, missed you guys!

Universe At War Write-Up![ Comment ] 23:09 PST | HeXetic | Print News | Category: PetroglyphWhew. Sorry about the delay, but slapping together 5000 words in the midst of a bunch of personal issues (not to mention having my glasses literally explode on me earlier today) is tougher than it sounds. Also, Metroid 3, yeah. Anyways, hit the "read more" link for my write-up on Universe At War. The photos'll have to wait until tomorrow, and I've got a ton of footage from the event (mostly of a Petroglyph studio tour featuring Mike Legg) to show you guys as soon as I get a moment to put it together.
Read the full story for all the exciting details on how Chris Rubyor totally got wiped out in a 2v2 with three fans!
Also, the Comment link appears to be borked, so use this forum thread for discussing the article instead. Feel free to ask me questions in the thread as well, as I'm sure I've left some things out of the write-up.
It's another in our weekly interview series. This time, I interview someone I've been wanting to interview for a long time: Banshee of Project Perfect Mod. We talk about his Web site, the community, C&C; 3, and he even gives some tips for those of you interested in starting your own Web site. Go check it out!

1.071....er...1.08 ready[ Comment ] 11:46 PST | Ghorkov | Print News | Category: C&C3;Little heads-up, the previously announced 1.08 patch (more like 1.071 in my opinion) has just come out. At the time of writing the patch download servers were overloaded and were undownloadable.
