Get Ready for a Wild Year in Gaming

The coming year always holds promise for a brighter future in videogames and this year looks like it may be an exceptional one. With two new consoles out, a brutal three-way console battle for your gaming dollars heating up, a new PC gaming push from Microsoft, and a growing handheld market, you've got a formula for some spectacular competition. As you probably already know, when game companies compete, you win.

All the games slated to come out in 2007 made this a tricky list to compile. Thanks to modern advances in gaming hardware, nearly every game has jaw-dropping graphics. This means that quality is more important than ever. What we've done is put together a collection of the games that have stuck out in our heads either through innovative design or concept, a creative presentation, or games that just plain looked fun. We believe each title in this list is worth keeping an eye on. We know that not every game can be a winner, but these are the ones that hold the most promise in our eyes.

Rather than give you a simple, numbered list, this year we've divided up the games by genre. This way we could give equal attention to each genre rather than lavishing all our love on just a handful of particular titles. Don't worry, if it's a numbered list you crave we'll also be presenting the top five most-wanted games list of each GameSpy editor at the end of our feature.

One last thing, we've decided to focus on games not yet out. This means any titles that have already been released are omitted from our list.
