After going to Best Buy and seeing first hand how barren the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sections were, I decided to just get some regular dvds instead. Watching something you actually want to see is in 480p is better than crap in 1080. Wake me up when these new formats have more than an aisle of movies each.

In light of the early reviews and demo, is BioShock poised to become the best game EVAR?

Red Orchestra Summer Update Details & Screens
- BERJAYA 2 Comments
Dig into a buncha details and screenshots for the Red Orchestra Summer Update (thx BU):
  • New map - "Krivoi Rog". This is set on the plains of the southern Ukraine in late 1943 and allows the German Tiger tank to show at its very best, matching its firepower against the speed and agility of the Russian T-34. This map also puts the new long view distances and higher player numbers to good use - giving massed tank engagements over an unprecedented 24 square kilometers of play area with a view distance of 3,000 meters.
  • New vehicle - the mid-war German Panzer IVG. This one bridges the gap between the under-powered early-war German tanks and the very powerful later-war machines. Graphical enhancements - The game now features an all new adaptive bloom system that aside from looking amazing (even at low resolutions) also simulates the effect of the eye adjusting when looking at bright areas. We have even added the in-game anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering settings for even more eye-candy.
  • New vehicle features including a manual tank shell reloading option and a dynamic camera movement system for when driving or riding in vehicles.
  • New system for locational and damage type specific pain and death sounds. For example, head shots will result in a quieter death sound, shots to the lower torso will result in a loud screaming death sound.
  • Many new server admin requested options and features include forced team balance, banning by ROID and improved Idle Kick.
  • As always, there is a long list of other new and updated features, plus bug fixes see the full changelog on the forums HERE!

New StarCraft 2 Screenshots of the Dark Templar
- BERJAYA 3 Comments
Blizz updated the StarCraft 2 website with new screenshots and details for The Protoss Dark Templar.
The dark templar are powerful psionic warriors whose forebears were exiled from the protoss homeworld of Aiur over a thousand years ago. The protoss who would eventually become the dark templar were banished for their refusal to join the emerging Khala, the communal mind link shared by all protoss, and the accompanying caste system enforced by the ruling Conclave of the protoss.

BioShock was Originally a WW2 Shooter
- BERJAYA 7 Comments
This might explain why so many publishers passed up on BioShock. According to 1Up, the game was originally a Nazi shooter set on a tropical island.
The Ayn Rand-inspired doomed dystopia setup for BioShock is pretty far removed from what the game was originally conceived at. Whereas the game mechanics involving gene splicing including magical powers seems to have been around since BioShock's foundation, Senior Designer Joe McDonagh told C&VG; the original setup involved "a tropical island with Nazis."

Planet Frontlines Launches
- BERJAYA 2 Comments
GameSpy & IGN have launched Planet Frontlines for your reading pleasure. If you're wondering WTF Frontlines is, and why it needs a planet, read the FAQ! To get things started, they've interviewed Kaos Studios' Mitch Gross.
4. Does Frontlines: Fuel of War feel like the natural evolution of ideas you started with Desert Combat?

DV: We definitely used DC as an inspiration for the feel of the game. We wanted to keep it a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled experience. We also focused on trying to re-create the same great feel DC had in terms of the weapons and the vehicles. Obviously, were doing this on a different engine this time around, so there will be some differences, but overall were quite pleased with how much weve been able to adapt Unreal3 to our game style. In addition, we wanted to evolve the ideas from Desert Combat into some new gameplay experiences, which weve done with the Frontlines game mode, which greatly improves upon previous game modes in this genre. The new combinations with the Loadout and Roles system, along with all the new, near future weapons, vehicles, and drones in the game, really take Frontlines to the next level.

EA Announces CNC3: Kane's Wrath
- BERJAYA 5 Comments
In case you were waiting for the official press release, EA has formally announced it is developing a new expansion pack for CNC3 called Kane's Wrath.
In the name of Kane! Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that the Command & Conquer series continues to thrive with Command & Conquer 3: Kanes Wrath. As the expansion pack to the critically-acclaimed and fan favorite, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, this Real-time Strategy (RTS) game returns to the Tiberium universe with Kane at the center of an epic new single player campaign.

The reaction to Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars has been tremendous. Fans and critics alike appreciated the combination of fast, fluid, and fun RTS game play with a deep story and the classic full-motion video sequences that are a hallmark of the Command & Conquer series, said Mike Verdu, VP and Executive Producer at EA Los Angeles (EALA). Im excited that were able to go back to the Tiberium universe with Command & Conquer 3: Kanes Wrath. This expansion has an impressive new single player campaign, a new global strategic layer that adds depth to the familiar Command & Conquer style gameplay, and several fun, all-new toys that range from versatile combat soldiers to giant armored walkers.

The single player campaign will allow players to experience a new story that spans 20 years from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod after the Second Tiberium War through the dramatic events of the Third Tiberium War and beyond. The story is told through a new set of high-definition live action video sequences starring a celebrity cast. Joe Kucan, the original actor who portrayed the character Kane in Command & Conquer games over the last decade, will reprise his role as the megalomaniacal leader of the Brotherhood of Nod. Other details of the cast have yet to be announced.

Command & Conquer 3: Kanes Wrath also features a new strategic layer to gameplay that allows players to establish bases, build customized armies, and attack their enemies on a global scale and then dive into the frenzied tactical combat where their skills as a commander will make the difference in battle. The game introduces six new sub-factions and a wealth of new units, structures, and powers to the armies of the Global Defense Initiative, the Brotherhood of Nod, and the enigmatic alien Scrin.

Planet Unreal Relaunched
- BERJAYA 8 Comments
The ladies over at Planet Unreal got a fresh new look today. To kick things off, they've kicked up an interview with Epic's Jeff Morris about UT 3. Here's a sniff:
Planet Unreal: Its been over two years since Unreal Tournament 3 first appeared under the Envy codename. As it nears release, how would you say the current incarnation of UT3 differs from the original vision of the game?

Jeff Morris: Thats a great question. We had a lot of ideas about what to add when we started UT3 and it was fascinating to see which ideas clicked and which didnt. The hoverboard was a really out there idea when pitched and not a lot of people thought it would be any fun. It soon became clear that hoverboards felt very Unreal Tournament in playtests and are a major success from our point of view.

Its important to keep in mind though that even the features that ended up on the cutting room floor contributed something to the final product. We fooled around with a very Battlefield 2 inspired commander system when we started, but it just never worked out for our style of game. What did though was an AI commander, who assigned players waypoints based on preferences they set in the UI. This works great and wouldnt have manifested if we didnt try another feature that ultimately didnt pan out.

First Online BioShock Review Posted
- BERJAYA 51 Comments
Game Informer has popped up what looks to be the first online review of BioShock which scored a perfect ten. There are some spoilers, so read on at your own risk...
Of course, even if you play games strictly for the difficulty that they bring, BioShock is a title that needs to be played, simply because you will never look at an FPS the same way again. Of the 15 to 20 hours of gameplay that it delivers, there isnt a second wasted.
Speaking of BioShock, there are quite a few reports online saying that Toys R Us has broken the street date for the game, in case you want to try your luck in kiddie land for the 360 version.

Thanks Simon & Ryan.

Oh noes, John From Cincinnati got cancelled on HBO. You know, I really wanted to like that show, but the Deadwood surfer lingo made my ears bleed...

Every time it rains (and a couple days following) my digital cable - For all intents and purposes - dies. Oh, the local stations are still okay, but everything else is a low signal quality mess. For that reason, I need to get either an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movie player so I have something to watch during said periods.

What would you suggest?

Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player?

P.S. - A big thanks to Matthew for dishing out that Medal of Honor: Airborne Hands-on preview for us!
