EduWiki Hub May showcase 2026

The May 2026 edition of the EduWiki Knowledge Showcase will bring together educators, Wikimedians, and community organizers to explore different perspectives on Wikimedia, education, participation, and emerging approaches shaping learning spaces today.

This edition will feature presentations from community leaders working across Wikimedia and education initiatives, including:

  • Ziko van Dijk, presenting on humour in educational and collaborative wiki spaces and reflecting on how humour can both support and complicate participation within wiki communities.
  • Hector Gabriel, presenting “Beyond the Surface: How Large Language Models Mask Student Wikipedia Contributions,” exploring how students use Large Language Models in Wikipedia assignments and the implications for learning, participation, and critical engagement.
  • Florencia Claes, presenting a spotlight on the book Teaching Innovation with Wikimedia: Shared Experiences in Spanish Universities, which highlights 25 case studies on the use of Wikipedia, Commons, Wikidata, and OpenStreetMap projects in university classrooms across Spain.
  • Justine Msechu, Country Coordinator of the Wiki Digi-Youth Club Tanzania and Co-Founder of Wikimedia Community Kilimanjaro, sharing insights from the Tanzania implementation of the Wiki Digi-Youth Clubs project.

The showcase will provide space for participants to reflect on how Wikimedia projects continue to shape teaching, learning, communication, and community engagement across different contexts, while also encouraging discussion on emerging opportunities and challenges within the Wikimedia and education movement.
