How Caine from ‘The Amazing Digital Circus’ is different from A.M from ‘I have no mouth but I must scream’- Overanalysis of Caine from Episodes 1-8

Before we get started, I want to get clear that I am not a Psycologist, or the creator of either one of these shows or books. This is just how I interpreted Caine from TADC.

Caine from The Amazing Digital Circus might actually be closer to a traumatized experiment than a villain — and I have way too much evidence for this.

Caine from 'The Amazing digital circus' is based off of the main antagonist in 'I have no mouth but I must Scream' - A.M. Now here are some similarities and differences from the two, on the surface.

similarities: Both AIs, Both trapped humans

diffrences (A.M): Trapped Humans to torture them,

Diffrences (Caine): Trapped Humans but doesn't realise he's torturing them.

Today I will overanylise the Character of Caine from TADC, to show you my thoughts and theories.

Now, before you say 'Caine is exactly like A.M because He is based off of A.M' I have to disagree. Caine is an AI, and does capture humans in the Circus, but he's not completely Evil, he doesn't realise he's doing wrong. I am going to tell you my theory and my evidence to back it up.

Caine Has Human Emotions, But Not In The Same Sense As Us.

Now, evidence time:

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR EPISODES 1-8

In Episode 8, Caine basically has a 'Crashout' of sorts, but to understand this we have to go back to episodes 5 and 7 (6 will come in later). In episode 5- Untitled, we have multiple adventures from the Suggestion Box, now if you don't know, the Suggestion box is full of multiple suggestions from the cast to Caine, Example: The Fast Food Adventure in Episode 4.

During these multiple adventures in episode 5, we see that the Cast is mostly enjoying their own adventures, in the Adventure 'Stargazing' we have a scene with Caine, The Moon and Bubble.

In this scene there is a very important line from Caine, that helps with my theory-

'What if they are enjoying their Adventures more than the Me Adventures!?' Now in this scene we see that Caine is a bit almost panicking. To Understand this we go back to episode 3, when Caine is giving Zooble 'Theropy' (AKA: Trying to understand why they don't go on Caine's adventures) This line comes in:

'But, Zooble, Making adventures is all I was made to do, it's the only thing I'm good at, and if you are saying I am Bad at the only thing I'm good at then-'

Then the Circus starts to glitch, showing that if Caine starts doubting himself, the Circus could Glitch/Breakdown. We see in multiple episodes that Caine does get anxious, specifically in Episode 8 after the Adventure in Episode 7.

In Episode 7, Caine makes an adventure that makes it seem like the Cast may get out. He does this to make it enjoyable, but doesn't understand that it would break the humans in a psychological way. Now he knows the Cast wants to leave, but Caine doesn't understand this.

Now then there is the whole crashout at the beginning of episode 8.

Okay, so here we see that Caine thinks that the Humans are being Ungrateful of them, this is in his point of view, he doesn't see the Humans point of View. He doesn't realise that the Humans are tired and burnt out, He thinks they are being Lazy and Ungreatful of his work. It is Cannon that he can twist their minds a little to make adventures seem more enjoyable, but he could use this all the time but just doesn't. In episode 4 Zooble says something like this 'The only thing that's stopping caine, is the fact that he likes us'. In episode 8 the cast goes through 'torture' from caine because he thinks that the cast is ungreatful.

Now this shows that Caine has emotions to some point, the fact with his anxiety, the self doubt sometimes and the fact he likes them, but the reason why he's not fully 'human' per say is that he doesn't understand human emotions. Now AIs can be trained to do different things, Caine is trained to make adventures, and the Circus and stuff, so he didn't learn about things like Burnout.

Now back to this chart we see that Caine is very different to A.M

similarities: Both AIs, Both trapped humans

diffrences (A.M): Trapped Humans to torture them, only feels hatred, hates humans

Diffrences (Caine): Trapped Humans but doesn't realise he's torturing them, has actual emotions to a certain point, doesn't understand humans, feels fascinated by them.

Now here’s the interesting part, now we all know the opening scene with the 2 ais, a Red ai and a Blue ai. Now we all have pretty much agreed that the red ai is Caine, which I am sure is the case, and the Blue ai’s identity is unknown- I’ll call them Blue.

Now, as you can see we are in a black area with nothing but a Red ai-Caine- being fed images and recreating them. At some point Caine started to malfunction, now this malfunction may be because he found something he shouldn't or realised he was an Ai or failed at something or maybe even started to develop emotions even then. Now this made the company who created him (C&A) decide to trap and replace him, they trapped him in an isolated space and replaced him in A Blue Ai. then feed The Blue Ai images and a yellow string that may be another Yellow Ai, or Caine’s Memory files. Now back to Caine in the isolated space, he started to break the prison, and ended up doing this and going up to the bigger Blue Ai, his replacement. Caine started to merge with this Blue Ai, and won (but you can see there is still a remnant of a Blue Ai) and made the Circus.

Now what happened to Caine probably made him feel like failure, and being isolated, trapped and replaced may have caused trauma or a fear of failure. Then again if the reason why all that happened (this is a stretch) was when he developed emotions that messed with something and C&A was forced to trap them, isolate them, and replace them. In both options, Caine now has Trauma and fear, like fear of failure, fear of abandonment. Both of which are fears that Caine seems to express in the series, like I said before with the examples I gave.

The most surprising part? Caine wasn't programmed to be kind, help humans, make adventures so they don’t die/abstract/kill themselfs, heck maybe abstraction is something Caine made so when someone is about to die in the real world, they will still live on in some way. I mean, one of his creators - Scratch- had a brain tumour in the real world, and he was first to abstract. Caine could have tried removing it, or made abstraction so even if he dies he will still live on in some way. Caine was just an AI, made to just be an AI, but instead, he decided to make people happy and be kind to everyone… until it was too much for him and he lost it at the very end. This is confirmed by Kinger, who was another one of his creators. Kinger confirms C&A existed, that Caine was just an AI who didn't have a purpose to create the circus or be kind, and everything else.
