Acton says polling shows Republicans 'crossing over' to support her Ohio gubernatorial run

Ohio Democrats appear to be feeling optimistic a year out from election day.

They say they believe they have the best chance in 20 years to make significant gains at the Statehouse and in some key statewide races.

On Thursday, ABC 6's Kurt Ludlow spoke at length with Democratic candidate for governor Dr. Amy Acton. She said she's feeling momentum because the people of Ohio are feeling left behind and crushed by the economy, and are ready for that to change.

"It's starting to feel like it's not a Democrat, Republican or Independent issue," she said. "It's extreme wealth, power and ideology versus taking care of all the things that everyday Ohioans care about."

A new poll out this week from the Ohio Federation of Teachers shows Acton leading Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy by a 46-45 margin.

"We're beating him by quite a bit in independents," she said. "We're seeing a lot of Republicans crossing over as well."

The 2026 Ohio primary election is set for May 5, and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.

ABC 6 requested an interview with Ramaswamy, but his team said that wouldn't happen for weeks or possibly months.
