Understanding and using Zulu time

Times on weather reports and
forecasts are almost always in Zulu time (It used to be called Greenwich Mean
Time.) This same time is also known as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and
also as Universal Time.
The term "Universal Time" is
usually used in astronomy while "Zulu time" is used in meteorology
and aviation.
Zulu and Universal time both
use the 24-hour, or "military" clock.
The 24 hour clock day begins with 00:01, or one minute
after midnight. Hours beginning with 13 or higher are p.m. To convert from 24-hour
time to a p.m. time, subtract 12 from any time greater than 13. For example,
13:30 is 1:30 p.m. The 24-hour time of 17:20 is 5:20 p.m. Midnight is 24:00.
