I would be grateful if some people with subject knowledge could assess the sweeping edits currently being done to that article. I'm getting the impression that this is the wholesale replacement of one interpretation with another, based on very selective sources, but I simply don't know the subject area. In any case I suspect these big deletes/replacements need some talk page discussion before being implemented. - Also notified WikiProject Islam. --Elmidae (talk · contribs)
Could somebody who reads German add information and sources from that article or the Internet? Thanks in advance. Bearian (talk) 19:31, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
New category
[edit]I have created a new category, Category:19th-century Australian women university graduates, and I have done my best to link as many relevant individual Wikipedia articles as I could identify that met the stated conditions for inclusion — namely, "Women who graduated at an official conferral ceremony, received the relevant testamur, and were thereby admitted to a degree from the University of Sydney, founded in 1850; and/or the University of Melbourne, founded in 1853; and/or the University of Adelaide, founded in 1874; and/or the University of Tasmania, founded in 1890, up to, and including Sunday, 31 December 1899." — and, at the moment, only 18 women are listed. I know that there were many more than 18 women involved, and I am wondering if there are any other women who graduated in Australia, between 1850 and 1899, that currently have their own individual Wikipedia articles, that have not been included in the category? Lindsay658 (talk) 13:06, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- Lindsay658, That's an interesting project!
- The first thing I noticed about Category:19th-century Australian women university graduates is that there isn't a main category called Category:19th-century women university graduates. Maybe there should be?
- How I would go about searching for additional names is by reviewing every article within Category:19th-century Australian women and its subcats. For instance, there are 21 articles in the subcat Category:19th-century Australian women medical doctors. It may be a bit tedious way to do the research in this way, but I think it would only take an hour, maybe less.
- Do you have a list(s) of the women within the scope of what you're working on, e.g., like one of the crowd-sourced (CS) lists here?
- Last but not least and JFYI, see here, which indicates that Women in Red has three Wikidata-generataed lists of notable women alumni/staff of Australian universities who don't have a Wikipedia article (Australian National University, University of Sydney, University of Tasmania). Would it be helpful for us to create similar lists for University of Adelaide and University of Melbourne? --Rosiestep (talk) 13:47, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- Rosiestep Thanks for the tips.
Overall the subject is somewhat outside my knowledge-base and skill-set. I happened to come upon the issue when I was working on James Oddie, and found that Bella Guerin had written a poem in his memory. Going from that to the (then) article of Bella Guerin () I was shocked to find something that was far less worthy of such an important figure in Australian history. After a number of days, I have brought the Guerin article up to what seems to be something far more like "Good Article" status (with heaps and heaps of references): please see Bella Guerin.
Conscious w.r.t. the overall difficulty of 19th century women attending an Australian university, of graduating with degrees, of being unable to study medicine, etc., PLUS Bella Guerin being the first-ever Australian woman graduate, I thought that the category would not only increase the salience of Bella and her colleagues, but provide a more expansive level of information to the average Wikipedia reader.
I have followed your advice and have been able to add another 6 names. So, with my own total lack of subject-knowledge, I must leave the task of locating any or all of the additional women who already have a Wikipedia article to another more qualified user.
Finally, as a last contribution to the enterprise in general, and in relation to your valuable suggestion of constructing an accurate "to do" list of individual graduates for whom a Wikipedia article is currently missing (something that I am unable to spend time on), the 100% accurate, raw material for the University of Sydney is at the list of Graduates (male and female)(with date of graduation)
-- it is important to ignore those " admitted ad eudndum gradum", because if their earlier degree was at one of the 3 other universities, it would already be placed on the list because of its connexion with that other Australian University (e.g., Bella Halloran at Sydney, because of Bella Guerin at Melbourne), and, if not, it would simply have been given in virtue of their "original graduation" elsewhere --
at , pp.302-317. The University of Adelaide: on , pp.25-34. The University of Tasmania: . There doesn't seem to be a similar list for Melbourne (viz., names plus date of graduation; but given that is part of the university calendar for 1900, one must assume that whomsoever is listed, must have graduated in 1899, or earlier). I wish you every success. Lindsay658 (talk) 08:13, 9 June 2026 (UTC)- Lindsay658 A very impressive article. You did her justice. Kudos to you for that! (and happy to have met you here) --Rosiestep (talk) 13:38, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Rosiestep Thanks for the tips.

White Feather Campaign: women's history, suffrage and neutrality concerns
[edit]I have raised concerns at Talk:White Feather Campaign and on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_Feminism about the neutrality and sourcing of White Feather Campaign, which is currently rated B‑class. The article frames the campaign as “often causing” mental suffering and suicides among men, builds its longest section around anecdotal suicide examples, and even cites a self‑published anti‑feminist blog (that contains links to a “green pill” men’s‑rights site), with a “See also” list that foregrounds concepts like “Discrimination against men,” “Male expendability,” “Misandry,” and “Reverse sexism.” In light of the B‑class criteria at Wikipedia:Content_assessment/B-Class_criteria and the importance of women’s history and feminist movements to this topic, I would greatly appreciate it if editors here could look at the article’s rating and consider whether neutrality or sourcing templates should be added. Request for assistance on biographical article
[edit]Hello WP: Women's History!
I recently copyedited Felicita Vestvali and have noticed that there is some speculation and a need for more sources. The article was previously a stub until recently, and most of the new information comes from a single source. Would any member of your wikiproject be willing to help with this article? I'm also sending this to a few other wikiprojects (Germany/Poland/Musicians) so that it can be improved.

This article about an empress consort in the Eastern Roman Empire is in the Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors because of 5 Harv/Sfn cite errors, this is because all the Sfn cites have no complete citations to target or to link to. I have no idea what "PBW" means or what "Bury 1912" is. Maybe someone in this WikiProject is interested in fixing these Sfn/referencing issues?
Here a list of all the orphan Sfn cites:
- {{sfn|PBW|loc=[http://www.pbe.kcl.ac.uk/data/D30/F40.htm Georgo 1]}}
- {{sfn|PBW|loc=[http://www.pbe.kcl.ac.uk/data/D80/F76.htm Theophylaktos 9]}}
- {{sfn|Bury|1912|p=14}}
- {{sfn|PBW|loc=[http://www.pbe.kcl.ac.uk/data/D70/F45.htm Staurakios 12]}}
- {{sfn|PBW|loc=[http://www.pbe.kcl.ac.uk/data/D80/F04.htm Theophano 2]}}
