The American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology
Promoting a standard of excellence in Clinical Neurophysiology for over 60 years
The American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, Inc. (formerly The American Board of Qualification in Electroencephalography, Inc.) was founded in 1946 by Herbert Jasper, M.D. It is the oldest free-standing Board for medical certification.
The purpose of the Board is to establish and improve standards of knowledge and proficiency in the professional practice of Clinical Neurophysiology. This is accomplished by successful completion of written/computer-based examinations in the field of Clinical Neurophysiology of the Central Nervous System, covering Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Polysomnography (PSG), Epilepsy Monitoring, and Neurologic Intraoperative Monitoring (NIOM). The Board grants one or more subspecialty designation and issues a certificate to eligible candidates who have satisfactorily completed both Parts of the examination.
Part I - Focuses on a core of knowledge that spans the field of clinical neurophysiology. This will include technical, clinical, and basic knowledge and theory covering central clinical neurophysiology.
Part II - Candidates must select one track, but will have the opportunity to take a second or third track, if desired. The questions are likely to be slightly more complex and include more practice based scenarios and samples.
Track Options:
Exams are offered in a during two week testing windows each summer and fall. Candidates may take both Part I and II, or multiple tracks during the same two week period, but not on the same day.
A Practice Exam covering both Part I and all three Part II tracks is available!
