AWS CEO Matt Garman sat down with The Wall Street Journal's Tim Higgins for a wide-ranging conversation on AWS's AI strategy, and why the long game is paying off. Key highlights: 🔹 Custom silicon bet: More than a decade ago, AWS acquired Annapurna Labs and began designing its own chips. That investment now spans Graviton (CPU) and Trainium (AI training & inference) delivering better performance at lower cost for customers. 🔹 $200B in infrastructure: AWS is making its largest-ever capital investment, building AI compute capacity across chips, data centers, and networking. Much of this spend is in long-lived infrastructure that will serve customers for years. And increasingly, this capacity is designed not just for model training, but for inference at production scale. 🔹 Choice for customers: From Anthropic to OpenAI, AWS customers now have access to the broadest set of foundation models through Amazon Bedrock, because customers told us that's what they wanted. 🔹 AI inside Amazon: Matt shared how Amazon employees use AI daily through Amazon Quick, building agentic workflows, sorting data, and preparing for meetings. Some teams are seeing 3–5x productivity improvements. 🔹 On the future of jobs: "I think there's the potential to create massive value, and I think there's going to be new and different types of jobs. People are going to have to adjust, learn different skills, and embrace it." Read the full WSJ piece: https://go.aws/4nDH7SS

  • They're not just executing tasks. They're thinking about what I need before I ask." This is what agentic AI looks like in practice. Not a demo. Not a concept. A leader's actual Monday morning, transformed. 👇

My agents are working while I sleep. And they're getting smarter every day. I used to dread Monday mornings. Zoom recordings to parse. Slack threads to untangle. Escalations buried in messages. Hours of context-switching before I could actually think. Now? I've built agents in Amazon Quick that work 24/7. One agent summarizes every Zoom meeting and flags action items. Another monitors Slack for escalation patterns and sends me alerts before things blow up. A third prioritizes my communications—so I see what actually matters first. I set them up once. They've been running ever since. The magic isn't that they're automated. It's that they learn. They understand my workflows, my priorities, my patterns. They're not just executing tasks—they're thinking about what I need before I ask. Monday morning? I walk in with clarity instead of chaos. This is what "work that wasn't possible a year ago" actually means. Not more features. More time. More focus. More impact.
