📺The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s draft guidelines for Television Audience Measurement (TAM) will have far reaching impact, democratising and modernising the rating system. It will lead to a recalibration of ad spends, with a greater proportion flowing to digital platforms that demonstrate high, verified viewership. This potential shift poses a significant challenge to the dominance of traditional TV. Here is a breakdown of the key impacts: 🔹1. End of Monopoly and Increased Competition: ▫️Multiple Rating Agencies: Removal of entry barriers will allow multiple agencies to operate in the TV rating space, ending the monopoly of BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council). ▫️New Players and Technology: Influx of new players, including Big Tech companies, OTT platforms, and Digital Platform Operators (DPOs) is expected to bring in advanced technologies, such as real-time streaming analytics and AI-driven meters. ▫️Shift in Advertising Spend and Threat to TV's Future: More comprehensive data, especially from digital and connected TV, will drive strategic shifts in ad budgets. 🔹2. More Accurate and Representative Data: ▫️Broader Sample Size: New guidelines encourage larger, more diverse sample sizes to better reflect India's varied demographics and ensure representativeness. (Currently: around 58,000 meters for 230 million TV households). ▫️Inclusive Viewership Capture: The system will now accurately capture viewership across emerging platforms like Smart TVs, streaming devices, and OTT, reflecting evolving consumption habits. ▫️Improved Data Granularity: More agencies and advanced tech promise granular, reliable data for clearer viewership trends. 🔹3. Impact on Broadcasters and Advertisers: ▫️Fairer Revenue Planning: More accurate ratings will enable broadcasters to plan content and ad strategies effectively, leading to equitable revenue distribution. ▫️Better Advertising ROI: Improved measurement will help advertisers make informed budget allocation decisions, potentially shifting spend to verified platforms. ▫️Content Strategy Evolution: A clearer understanding of multi-platform consumption will empower broadcasters to adapt content for evolving viewer demands. 🔹4. Potential Challenges and Concerns: ▫️Conflict of Interest: Concerns remain about potential conflicts of interest if large media entities can fund rating systems. ▫️Transition Period: The shift to a multi-agency system and new technologies may present initial implementation challenges for the industry. ▫️Maintaining Credibility: Ensuring the integrity and credibility of data from multiple agencies will be crucial. #Televison #TRP #OTT #BARC #AdEx

CRPF Reorients Command Structure to Boost Operational Efficiency in Anti-Naxal Campaign As India's anti-Naxal campaign reaches a crucial phase with a goal to eradicate Naxalism by March 31, 2026, the CRPF has restructured its command hierarchy to enhance efficiency and coordination. Under Special DG (Operations) Vitul Kumar, the new structure focuses on streamlining operations across conflict zones in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Maharashtra, where engagement with Naxal insurgents continues. Amidst significant achievements, including the neutralization of 22 out of 35 top Naxal leaders, the CRPF has redefined senior officers' roles to improve accountability and decision-making. Key operational and administrative roles are now consolidated under Special Directors Generals and Additional Directors Generals. Special DGs oversee various units, from combat operations to administration and training, ensuring better management and quicker responses. The restructuring clarifies reporting lines and accountability frameworks, aligning with CRPF’s modernization goals. This recalibrated command system is crucial as the force prepares for intensified operations against Naxalism in the coming months. #Bureaucratsmag

📢 The shouting paradox: Why loud news is driving audiences away For years, Indian television news has relied on aggressive, confrontational debates to drive Television Rating Points (TRPs). The assumption was simple: the louder the anchor, the greater the audience engagement. Research from the Reuters Institute Digital News Report (2025) and various Indian media studies now suggests the opposite. 🔹 Erosion of trust: Constant interruptions, performative outrage, and perceived anchor bias have damaged credibility. Viewers are migrating to independent YouTube creators who offer a calmer, more human tone. 🔹 The ‘Mean World Syndrome’ effect: Relentless high-conflict, negative news creates the perception that everything is broken and dangerous. The psychological response? Disengage, scroll past, switch off. 🔹 Selective news avoidance In India, especially among younger audiences, news avoidance is increasingly intentional. “Toxic debates” are cited as a key reason for choosing non-news content or snackable digital updates over prime-time television. So what works instead? Calm, solutions-oriented journalism Two clear pivots are emerging among digital-first platforms—and a few forward-looking legacy brands. ✅ 1. Solutions Journalism This approach focuses on responses, not just problems. For instance, explaining successful water conservation models while reporting a drought. Studies by the Centre for Media Engagement show that evidence-based and solutions-oriented news makes readers feel more informed, increasing their likelihood of sharing the content ✅ 2. Calm reporting and clear labelling The 2026 digital audience values clarity over clamour, relevance over noise. Neutral language over inflammatory rhetoric Clear separation between fact, opinion, and analysis through explicit labelling News framed as a service (e.g., “How this policy affects your home loan” rather than endless studio combat) The takeaway: Shouting may still generate momentary spikes—but calm, credible, and solutions-driven journalism builds long-term trust. And trust, not noise, is what sustains audiences today. #DigitalNews #MediaTrends #India #YouTube #Facebook #X #ContentStrategy #Journalism #Marketing

All Ai platforms in America were built on information available in books and more importantly, media outlets like the New York Times etc. if India builds similar platforms, it will have to depend on media sources that are heavily biased, creating fake output and hallucinations

The #DoT has been pushing the telcos to implement the #CNAP service at the earliest. The plan to make name display compulsory for #incoming #calls is meant to curb spam and scam calls as the recipient of calls will be able to know who is calling. But technological constraints have prevented the implementation of the service on #2G #networks, according to #telcos. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gr8uPgwi https://lnkd.in/gp5xjXWS

Interesting thought process on newsletters in the global south. Like podcasts, the success cases tend to be a narrow strip at the top who win the market. Those tend to be white men in Western countries (generalising). But we go ahead and repeat the same formula in our markets and hope they'll work. This is the danger of copy-pasting solutions, or consultants who sell a solution rather than listening and seeing what works. We need solutions that work where we are. For our audiences. And then turn that into a business.

The valuation of the Indian equity market is expensive but stocks are unable to go through a "cleansing" or correction phase because of heavy domestic inflows through mutual funds, Venkatesh Balasubramaniam, managing director and head of research at JM Financial Ltd., told Informist Media Pvt Ltd. in an interview. "I personally believe this is not the right time to invest in the market," he said. "The market is not going to go anywhere over the next 6-9 months." In an increasingly fragmented world, international cooperation isn’t ending, it’s evolving. The old playbook of development assistance can no longer keep up. Today, the narrative is clear: it’s about co-creating solutions, sharing power, and communicating with clarity and purpose. In my recent article for exchange4media, I reflect on how global development narratives are shifting and why communication professionals must adapt to keep pace. Whether you’re in development, diplomacy, or strategic communications, I hope this piece provides a moment to pause, reflect, and rethink the future of international partnerships. Does this perspective resonate with you? #DevelopmentCooperation #GlobalSouth #InternationalRelations #DevelopmentCommunication #C4D

"Before search became an answer box, it was a terrain. You clicked through a mix of speculation, oversharing, and surprising insight. A question led to a journey. You might start by reading a review of a budget washing machine and end up in a 2014 forum thread debating the morality of planned obsolescence in Indian manufacturing. The point was never the machine. It was always the meandering. That path, 'the unreliable, joyful, often frustrating arc of discovery' is increasingly being smoothed over by systems designed to predict what you want and deliver it before your curiosity has fully stretched its legs." A must read piece

NSE shares in the unlisted market just went from Rs 1975 on Friday to Rs 2095 on Monday after SEBI Chief said its IPO could get a NOC as early as end of Jan. Is this rise sustainable? Or just a temporary rebound? Results haven’t been great for the last two quarter for the index, and Q3 might not be different. But early investors may gain once the IPO price band is announced. Read my piece in The Economic Times to know more! #nse #ipo #sebi
