A few key themes stood out at the AWS Partner Summit Sydney last week... AI has clearly moved beyond experimentation (yay!). Most encryption protecting sensitive Australian data today will be breakable within a decade. That's not speculation. It's the mathematical trajectory of quantum computing. What makes this uncomfortable is the "harvest now, decrypt later" reality. Adversaries aren't waiting for quantum computers to arrive. They're capturing encrypted data today. Most cloud migrations don't fail at cutover. They fail months earlier, in rooms where no one asked the hard questions about ownership, sequencing, or what happens when something breaks. Organisations treat migration as a project with a start and end date. But the environments being moved are living, interconnected systems, and the governance wrapped around them is almost never fit for purpose. No clear escalation paths.
