Close needed

It looks like Commons:Village pump/Proposals/Archive/2026/03#Allow the Upload Wizard to automatically convert MP4 to WebM has been archived without a close. Would an admin be able to review the discussion and assess the consensus? Sdkb ^talk 16:47, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

@Sdkb I'm fairly certain there is a strong consensus on "Allow auto conversion" and "Allow uploading MP4 files (and convert to WebM for playback)" ;). I don't think you need an admin for that :)... or is there a catch I don't see? WMF needs to try to make it work. I'm sure it is doable in one way or the other. @Nux, it's clear that there is consensus to allow upload in some manner, but the first two sections refer to different options: The first is to convert the file to a different format when uploaded, and the second is to upload the file as an MP4 but then convert it when it's played.

I'm guessing that whichever one of my WMF colleagues who implements this may have an easier time if they're allowed to choose whichever option they find easiest. But if both are possible, it might be useful to have a closer's assessment of which is preferred. Cheers, Sdkb ^talk 01:38, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

Deletion requests/Files found with herb Daruk

Following the soft reversions of the SD-F10 I had applied to three files, I opened this DR today, concerning 3 versions of a single coat of arms (Daruk family's) registered on non official websites and uploaded by 3 different accounts :

I find it beyond belief that three actually separate individuals responded to the DR almost verbatim identically. Obvious sockpuppeting. All edits for all accounts appear to be entirely related to "herb Daruk". @Kontributor 2K: I see you didn't notify these accounts of this discussion. I will do so.

As an admin: it seems to me that the only question here is whether we indef-block all of these accounts, or whether we indef-block two of these as sockpuppets and allow one to continue. - Jmabel ! talk 20:28, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Flickrbot Performance is suddenly weak

Dear Admins,

I had uploaded an image today and noticed that it was not yet reviewed after 2 hours. So, I checked the flickrbot performance (above) and it seems to be slow....by marking maybe 25-30 images every 20 or 30 minutes. Usually the flickrbot is supposed to review all images in the backlog unless there is a technical problem with some images. Meanwhile the flickr Backlog has grown from about 280 images to now 500 images. At present, the situation is not serious, but if the flickrbot keeps underperforming, it will be a problem in 2-3 days time. Hopefully, this issue can be solved before Commons has a problem here. Consensus to unblock User:Luisalvaz

The user User:Luisalvaz was blocked by User:AntiCompositeNumber because violate personality rights uploading photos of people using red badget in Wikimania 2026, the admin AnticompositeNumber seems too inactive in this days and he isn't replying the consensus thread that I opened in User talk:Luisalvaz and I appreciating too excesive interpretation of the policy of personality rights, photos that the only visible thing is the red badget but not the people were deleted, furthermore the indefinite block of Luisalvaz is too excesive. Files not deleted despite no opposition and a long time since deletion requests

Could Administrators check these deletion requests?

Stale license reviewer request

I submitted a license reviewer request about a month ago. I've tried advertising at the village pump and pinging interested users, but its been pretty stale and hasn't been closed yet. I'm happy to answer questions on the thread still, but I was really hoping that someone would consider closing it or adding to the discussion as an administrator. @Aplucas0703: I don't think you are doing anything actively wrong. I just think no admin has come along and say, "Oh, yeah, I'm familiar with their work, they'd make great license reviewer" and granted you that right. I honestly don't know what to make of this

Special:Diff/1259154562. Semi-nonsense in Turkish, and the content written (and then deleted) on their own talk page is even stranger. Clearly a sockpuppet, but not of anyone I ever remember dealing with and certainly not at length, so I don't know why I was singled out. My first inclination was just to block, but they may be going through a crisis of some sort, and there also may be a legitimate deletion request here if they are the author of the (rather odd) files in question which I think would only be kept if being used on someone's user page, though apparently (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Firakfen five.JPG) User:Minorax and User:Jameslwoodward disagree with me, or did in the past.

When a Turk asks if you are an Armenian, it is seldom friendly. When someone presumably deliberately calls you by the wrong name, ditto. I am now asking for a block, and I think at this point I'm too involved a party to be the one who blocks. Still, I do think those files should be deleted.
