Today, we’re excited to announce that Sony will join the N Developer Preview family of supported devices with the Xperia™ Z3.

The Xperia™ Z3 joins Nexus 5X, 6, 6P, Nexus Player, the Pixel C tablet and General Mobile 4G (Android One) in giving you an early look at the next version of Android. Sony has been working closely with us to bring you the N Developer Preview on Xperia™ for early testing and development.

To get started, you can download the latest N Developer Preview from Sony (currently Developer Preview 2, available at the link below) and manually flash it to your device. You’ll then receive future Developer Preview updates over-the-air, direct from Sony.

We’re continuing to work toward giving you more options for early testing and development on N Developer Preview. Stay tuned!

+Earl Joshua Rey it's an excellent phone for the price. But I'll recommend 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB when using 64-bit Android.

I'm waiting for the next Nexus device. I'll sacrifice phone size..(I'm using a Z5Compact) but I can't stand my phone anymore... Adaptive brightness always had a bug with the gamma. The camera short distance is really bad. And the quality of the pictures are just OK (compared to my old Nexus 5 with HDR+) unless you only care about landscapes photos. and the updates were really slow and bugged. Only the Z3 line has more attention in Sony.

Fun fact : Modern CPUs can only handle a certain number of threads at one time. Once you get above that limit, they have to start scheduling which thread gets the next open block of CPU processing time. And even better : This can influence the performance of your Android app.

In this video +Colt McAnlis introduces the concept of thread priority, why it’s important to work with, and how to set it for threads you create, in a very sane way.

Top tips for using the new Android Wear -round identifier

Hoi Lam shares some of the best practices when building for circular screens! With API 23, you can now separate resource files by whether the screen is round or not using -round suffix in the resource directories (e.g. layout-round, values-round). How should you choose between BoxInsetLayout, layout-round and values-round? Read on to find out!

Deprecation of BIND_LISTENER with Android Wear APIs

If you’re an Android Wear developer, we wanted to let you know of a change you might need to make to your app to improve the performance of your user’s devices. If your app is using BIND_LISTENER intent filters in your manifest, it is important that you are aware that this API has been deprecated on all Android versions. The new replacement API introduced in Google Play Services 8.2 is more efficient for Android devices, so developers are encouraged to migrate to this as soon as possible to ensure the best user experience. It is important that all Android Wear developers are aware of this change and update their apps as soon as possible.

Through some simple rules/interactions, the world Grove creates is different every time it’s experienced. Whether it’s wandering into densely generated forest or cavernous terrain, explore and bend the rules that make up this world. You can tap on anything to change the world around you. P...

Let’s say you’ve got some 20 bitmaps being decoded on a worker thread. Well, what happens if your activity is destroyed before that work completes?

In this video Doug Stevenson explains Loaders. A super-helpful class that can give you insight into how the activity lifecycle is changing, so that you can better understand how to address threaded work that might be in flight.

Is there a similar mechanism that has the lifecycle of other components, other than of Activity ?
