I’m an Oceanographer, and although I don’t study squid, I do love them very much. The vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) is one of my favorite sea creatures. Maybe it says something about me, but when I saw people making mermaid tail blankets, my first thought was "I want that, but as a weird deep sea... Continue Reading →
Super Moon finished!!!
It's finally done! This is, by far, the most strikingly beautiful thing I have ever knit. It is barely off the needles and it has stolen the title of "favorite finished object ever". I wish I had taken matching "before" and "after" shots so you could see how the blocking really helped it. All my... Continue Reading →
Kaarna Cowl progress (4)
One of the fun things about brioche is how it can often look just as beautiful on the "wrong side" as the "right side". This project is definitely that way. Even now that I'm over halfway through this cowl, I still haven't decided which side I want to wear on the outside. I figured I... Continue Reading →
Kaarna Cowl progress (3)
I can't believe that it has been a couple weeks since I checked in on this project. At some point I lost a bit of momentum on it because I needed to focus on my sweater, but I never set it aside completely. The feel of this yarn combination is so luxurious that every time... Continue Reading →
Super Moon progress (15)
After the last photo I ended up splitting the sleeves back onto separate needles again. I found I was trying things on so often that it was becoming a hassle. The cuffs reach well down onto my hands now and are looking pretty close to the pattern photos. I think it might be just about... Continue Reading →
Super Moon progress (14)
I made it to the cuffs! Part of me wishes I had started my decreases a little earlier, because there is still a slight balloon effect, but that's ok. This sweater is so big and cozy that the sleeve shape works just fine. For most other patterns I'd probably be stopping very soon and binding... Continue Reading →
Random Progress
No photos today. Things are a little chaotic this week. We had a (not unexpected) death in the family and there has been an upheaval in our normal schedule. I've been doing what I can to help out, and spending any free time knitting to keep myself calm. I'm trying to focus on my sweater,... Continue Reading →
Cacti Socks progress (3)
I've still been working on my socks a little when I am in the office. There hasn't been a whole lot of knitting time there with all the holiday parties and end of year crunch time, but that's ok. I am very happy with the way these are looking, and they are super squishy with... Continue Reading →
Super Moon progress (13)
I got some more of the sleeves done, and decided it was time to try them on. You can see from the photo that I finally have a decent amount of length in the sleeves. There's still a few more inches to go, but I am definitely getting closer. The pattern calls for a single... Continue Reading →
Super Moon progress (12)
I tried to push myself to focus on these sleeves over the weekend but I kept getting distracted. This is about halfway, so it's not too shabby. If I can keep doing an inch or so per day I should be finished in time to have it blocked and ready to wear before xmas.
Super Moon progress (11)
More sleeve progress. Even the "plain" side of the sleeves looks lovely with this yarn and stitch combo. Now I just need to keep myself motivated to keep up this pace. I feel like I have a few too many projects either on the needles or that I want to cast on before the holidays.... Continue Reading →
Cacti Socks progress (2)
Other projects have been much more engaging to me lately, but I've still found some time for these. They are lower priority because they don't have a deadline and because they are not quite as fun as my fluffy cowl. They are still very pretty though, and I do really want another pair of DK... Continue Reading →
Super Moon progress (10)
My pace has slowed a little bit, but I still managed to bind off the body and pick up the sleeves. I had a few false starts but I think things will really take off now that I have everything established and I only have one chart to keep track of. Setting up for two... Continue Reading →
