Trump’s Own Witness Links Him Directly to Fraud
“Donald Trump had his worst day yet in his ongoing civil fraud trial in New York on Tuesday, and at the hands of his own key witness, a former Trump Organization executive who linked the former president directly to the fuzzy math at the center of the case,” Business Insider reports.
“The witness was Jeffrey McConney, Trump Org’s ex-comptroller and spreadsheet czar. McConney had been called to the witness stand by the defense, but on cross-examination by lawyers for the state attorney general’s office Tuesday, he linked Trump firmly to the conspiracy and fraud counts that have yet to be decided in the non-jury trial.”
Cuomo Eyes Bid for New York City Mayor
“Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo is indicating to allies he may want to run for New York City mayor if fellow Democrat Eric Adams sinks under the weight of a federal investigation,” Politico reports.
“Cuomo, who resigned more than two years ago amid allegations of sexual harassment and claims his administration covered up the number of Covid-19 deaths tied to nursing homes, has begun in recent days to gauge the viability of a potential mayoral bid.”
“Cuomo would not run in a primary race that includes Adams, whom he considers a friend.”
Michael Cohen Seeks to Quash Trump’s Subpoena
Michael Cohen asked a judge on Tuesday to quash a “wildly overbroad” subpoena in Donald Trump’s criminal hush-money case in New York City, The Messenger reports.
From the motion: “The subpoena issued to Mr. Cohen is an obvious and blatant act of witness intimidation, and merely the latest incident in a years-long pattern of harassment and retaliation by defendant Trump.”
Dean Phillips Allies Launch Ads Attacking Biden
“A new super PAC supporting the presidential campaign of Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) released a series of television ads Tuesday that directly challenge the electability of President Biden,” the Washington Post reports.
“Some of the spots — which will initially run in New Hampshire and the Washington area — compare Biden’s campaign to a burning dynamite fuse overlaid on news headlines about his struggles and recent polling results showing him trailing former president Donald Trump.”
Judge Won’t Send Trump Co-Defendant to Jail

New Ad Links Nikki Haley to Hillary Clinton
“Fight Right, a newly formed super PAC backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president, will go after former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for past comments she’s made about Hillary Clinton in its first TV ad,” NBC News reports.
“The 30-second ad takes past Haley quotes about Clinton out of context. It marks the latest instance of pro-DeSantis groups targeting the former United Nations ambassador, who has been rising in both early state and national polls, threatening DeSantis’ long-established second-place standing in the Republican presidential primary.”
From the ad: “Crooked Hillary. But to Nikki Haley, she’s her role model. The reason she ran for office.”
The Obama Generation Has Aged Out
Nate Silver: “None of the voters who were in the age 18-29 bracket the last time Obama was on the ballot in 2012 will be in that group next year. Today’s young voters may not have particularly clear memories of Obama or the somewhat kitschy, nostalgic treatment of Biden during his years as Vice President.”
“Instead, a voter in their late 20s will now have faced three consecutive elections with candidates they weren’t very enthusiastic about. Sanders, not Hillary Clinton or Biden, was the choice of young liberals in 2016 in 2020. This year, Democrats haven’t really had a contested nomination at all. ‘Hold your nose and vote for this old person that you didn’t want to be nominated’ is a tough message to sell three times in a row.”
“To be clear, I think the sales pitch will work with some young voters, particularly around issues like abortion and gay and trans rights. But Democrats aren’t making it easy on themselves by consistently nominating presidential candidates with little youth appeal.”

ProPublica profiles Richard Dyke, who built the company that popularized assault-style rifles in America.
“When the public asks, ‘How did we get here?’ after each mass shooting, the answer goes beyond National Rifle Association lobbyists and Second Amendment zealots. It lies in large measure with the strategies of firearms executives like Dyke. Long before his competitors, the mercurial showman saw the profits in a product that tapped into Americans’ primal fears, and he pulled the mundane levers of American business and politics to get what he wanted.”
Mike Johnson Wants to Revisit Contraception Bans
Speaker Mike Johnson voiced support just last year for revisiting Supreme Court decisions that struck down restrictions on the use of contraception, barred bans on gay sex and legalized same sex marriages, CNN reports.
