In 2016, a Federal Reserve payments study showed a decline in check usage. In fact, from 2000-2018, there’s been a steady decline in checks at a rate of about 2 billion checks per year. Although check usage is down, spending is up. As you may have guessed, there’s an upward trend in using cards, apps, and electronic payments today.
