High-pressure gas leak under control after homes evacuated on North Alexander

A high-pressure gas leak was reported Monday (May 24) morning at on North Alexander near Bienville Street.

Homes in the immediate vicinity were evacuated, the New Orleans Fire Department reported. No injuries were reported.

The leak occurred at 224 N. Alexander, where construction crews were doing road repairs. The work apparently ruptured the gas line in the street, according to reports.

Entergy turned off the gas to the area while the leak was being repaired, and residents were allowed back into their homes.

The leak was reported to be under control by 9:30 a.m.
