Boy injured in collision with bus after his mother jumped from car due to spider on her shoulder
A 9-year-old boy was transported to hospital with minor head injuries after a shock from a spider caused a crash involving a school bus and a “driverless” car, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department in Indiana.

At around 4:15pm on Friday, deputies, along with Syracuse Police and Fire Units, responded to reports of a vehicle striking a school bus. Officers arrived and found the boy lying outside a Dodge Avenger, which had collided with the bus.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Chad Hill said investigators at the scene determined the child’s mother, Angela K. Kipp, 35, of Syracuse, was originally backing out of her driveway. Hill said she reportedly jumped from the vehicle after noticing there was a spider on her shoulder.

However, her son was still in the Dodge and climbed from the back seat to the driver’s seat to attempt to hit the brake pedal. Instead, he hit the accelerator while the Dodge was in reverse, causing it to collide with the passing Wawasee Corporation School Bus. There were no children present on the school bus when it crashed and its driver was not injured, according to Hill. This crash is still under investigation.

Woman asked Facebook friends to shoot her dog
On Thursday, a woman from Troupe, Texas, asked her Facebook friends: "I need someone to come shoot my dog, nobody here has the heart to do it! We will provide the gun!"

After seeing the post, Nicholas Pet Haven in Tyler, Texas, put out an appeal to locate the woman, then contacted Troup PD, who, assisted by Smith County Animal Control, had the dog picked up. It turns out, the dog is a 3-year-old Saint Bernard/English bulldog mix named Cinnamon.

Animal control officers who picked up the dog said the woman told them she wanted it killed because she could no longer care for her and because the dog kept getting in the garbage. "It's devastating," said animal shelter coordinator Nanette Moss. "I work with these dogs every day. They are my life, and when she walked through my door it just broke my heart.

"She's a sweet dog and how can somebody shoot a sweet dog?" Thankfully, Cinnamon was taken to a foster family who will take care of her until she's adopted. Cinnamon has been spayed and a vet gave her a clean bill of health on Friday and updated her shots. Authorities say the woman will not face charges since she surrendered the dog to animal control.

Uncle dead and his nephew injured in shootout over alleged theft of rooster
A shootout in Meigs County, Ohio, over the alleged theft of a rooster ended with the owner killed and his nephew in the hospital.
District Attorney Russell Johnson’s office says officials were called to a home on Moore Cemetery Road in Decatur just after 2am on Wednesday morning for a shooting call. Larry Eugene Johnson, Jr. was inside one of two mobile homes on the property with a gunshot wound to the chest. His uncle Timothy Dewayne Johnson was dead from apparent gunshot wounds in the driveway.

April Johnson, Larry’s wife, was inside the home when this happened. “I heard yelling and then I heard gun shots. I heard one gun shot. I heard two gun shots and then I heard multiple gun shots and then I didn’t hear nothing else,” said Johnson. Investigators say Timothy Johnson had come to the home and confronted Larry Johnson about the alleged theft of his prize-winning rooster. April says her husband had no part in that. “My husband didn’t steal no chicken. We hadn’t seen him in forever,” said April Johnson. Then things started to get heated.
Apparently, Larry Johnson told someone with him that Timothy Johnson drew a gun. Larry Johnson tried to grab his uncle’s gun when he was shot in the chest. That’s when Larry fired back several times with his own gun. His uncle ended up dying in the driveway while he scrambled to get inside the home. “He yelled, ‘April, come here. He shot me. Call 911,'” said April Johnson. Larry Johnson was flown to UT Medical Center and is still in the intensive care unit, according to family members. His wife said he has two broken ribs along with a punctured lung and a bullet still inside him.
Timothy Johnson’s family is convinced the rooster was taken by Larry. Johnson While that’s debatable, both sides do agree this shouldn’t have happened. “Regardless of grudges or whatever the case may be, this ain’t the way to solve anything because nobody wins in the end,” said April Johnson. April Johnson says her husband shot his uncle out of self defence. Both families say the two men had a good relationship and they didn’t expect this to happen. Timothy Johnson’s body has been taken for autopsy. The district attorney’s office says once all autopsy and toxicology tests are in, as well as a complete investigative file, the case will be presented to the next Meigs County Grand Jury which meets in late November.

Woman called 911 to report Bigfoot with a baby
A woman from Bedford County, Virginia recently called the Sheriff’s Office about Bigfoot. She says her story is no joke.
"I know this is going to sound crazy,” said the woman in a call to Bedford dispatch.
The woman told the dispatcher she was driving up Route 43, toward the Peaks of Otter, at around 11:40pm on September 9.

She said her headlights hit something strange past Turkey Mountain Road, just before the first bridge. This is part of her conversation with a dispatcher on September 11. Caller: "I know this is going to sound crazy, but I went back and checked and there were prints, a Bigfoot with a baby." Dispatcher: "There were what?" Caller: "It was a Bigfoot with a baby."
After assuring the dispatcher she hadn't been drinking, the woman offered no explanation why she waited two days to call. She says she went back in daylight. Caller: "I did see some footprints and the stride was longer than anything I could make." The woman says the creature's footprint was bigger than her two feet together, end to end. She wears a size 8 shoe. She says the creature was holding its baby the way a human would. Caller: "The baby was looking right at me."
The woman says the baby looked just like Chewbacca from “Star Wars”. Caller: "Have you ever gotten other reports like this?" Dispatcher: "I've never had a call like this in my life." The dispatcher told the woman he’s worked in dispatch 10 years. A deputy checked out the area and didn't see anything. The woman said she knows they were not bears. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the woman said she recently moved to the area and does not want to get a reputation with her new neighbours.

Aggressive street preacher defeated by bagpiper
A preacher who took to the street in St Andrews, Scotland, to shout what has been described as an “aggressive message” was defeated by a man playing bagpipes.

Locals said his message was almost impossible to understand, but seemed to be aggressive and was ruining the atmosphere on a lovely sunny day in the town.
The man was using a small amplifier to shout out his message beside the fountain in Market Street.

Lachie Blair captured the moment the preacher was finally silenced, drowned out by a rendition of Scotland the Brave. As Lachie put it, the piper won in “the most Scottish way possible.”

Missing finger found in drawer proved profitable
A newly-discovered digit sparked a bidding frenzy at an auction house and added over £30,000 to the price of a pair of statues.
Newcastle auctioneers Anderson & Garland were selling a pair of 18th Century garden sculptures.
The near life-sized male and female lead figures were expected to sell for between £10,000 and £15,000 - with the price reflecting the fact that one of the sculptures was missing a finger.
But on the morning of the auction, the seller found the missing finger in a drawer. And the discovery sparked some frenzied bidding for the now complete statues, adding a goodly number of extra digits to push the final price paid to £50,000. The 60in tall garden figures feature a male Harlequin holding a mask and a female dancer with an outstretched arm, which had once held a tambourine. The lot was originally entered into the sale minus the finger, which had broken off the male figure at some point and was believed to be lost.
The unnamed vendors, who discovered the missing finger in a drawer, inherited the statues and had previously displayed them in their garden in Northumberland. Anderson & Garland auctioneer, Fred Wyrley-Birch, said: “These are rare and very desirable garden features that people would love to own. “The male figure had always been missing his right index finger and having the piece recast would have cost well over £1,000.

“But the client found the finger in the back of a drawer on Thursday morning and called us up, shouting down the phone: ‘I’ve found the finger, I’ve found the finger!’ They rushed in with it before the lot went under the hammer, and fortunately we had time to inform the telephone bidders who had already expressed an interest in the figures.” A bank of eight telephones, plus bidders online and in the room battled it out and pushed up the price of the lot to £50,000. It eventually sold to an undisclosed telephone buyer.

Leg spotted floating in canal retrieved by police
Police officers in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, received reports of a leg floating in the Kennet & Avon canal last week.
PCSO Andrew MacLachlan responded to the call and made his way to the canal at Turleigh.
“It was a bit of a mysterious call really,” he said. “This chap called us to say he spotted a lower leg limb floating in the water and so we went down there to have a look and fairly quickly, we were able to fetch it out.
“I was pretty sure and confident that it wasn’t an actual leg but with the help of a lovely chap at Elbow Cottage, I was able to fish it out with a long rod.” PCSO MacLachlan added that he had no idea whether the leg came from a mannequin.

He doesn’t believe anyone would have thrown it in the canal on purpose. “It is little jobs like that which make the job wonderful. I am glad it was just made from rubber and not an actual foot,” he added.

91-year-old man shot at landscape gardener in dispute over grass clippings
Johnny Barnes was out doing a landscaping job with his boss Robert Hendrix in Avon Park, Florida, when a man investigators identified as 91-year-old Max Horton became irate that some grass had landed on a friend’s car.
“You don't shoot anybody over a piece of grass,” Barnes said. I have a bad temper sometimes too, but, I am not gonna get a gun and shoot someone cause you got dirt on my car and that is exactly what it came down to, a little dust and dirt and someone's life was on the line.”
This all happened on Thursday in front of Horton’s home. Barnes said if he hadn't distracted Horton his friend would’ve been killed. “He had him at gunpoint on his hands and knees begging for his life,” Barnes said. “I just started moving get him to look at me. When he moved his head to watch me he said ‘hey, hey’ his attention come to me and his hand came off of Robert.” At that moment Barnes said Hendrix grabbed for the gun. “It gave him the opportunity to save himself,” Barnes said. During the scuffle the gun went off just missing Hendrix’s head.
“They are wonderful workers they are the best,” Marilyn Krug said. Krug said Hendrix has cut her lawn with Barnes for more than a decade. In fact, she said they are hired out to do almost all of the houses in the neighbourhood. Krug said Horton has a history of having a bad temper in the neighbourhood but couldn't believe what happened. “This is such a quiet community and everyone is family here,” Krug said. “It has really upset the community.” Barnes said he was taught to respect his elders, but couldn’t sit back and watch his boss get murdered over some yard clippings.

“For an old person to have to get hurt I hate that. But, I hate worse my friend to get hurt,” Barnes said. “You don't shoot anybody over a piece of grass. I said you gonna get what you deserve big boy, you had no right doing that.” Horton has been charged with attempted murder and is being held at the Highlands County Jail with no bond. Investigators said he has had trouble threatening people with violence before. According to their news release: Horton was transported by EMS to Highlands Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room for treatment. Florida Hospital was bypassed because Horton had been trespassed warned from Florida Hospital in September, 2013, due to verbal threats he made to staff members, telling them he had a gun in his vehicle and they would be sorry if he went to get it.

Woman trapped on trampoline by pet pig
Penny Phillips' 6-month-old unnamed pig managed to hop over his four-and-a-half foot electric fence at her family farm in Fountain, Florida, on Tuesday after being startled by horses.
"The horses spooked him," Phillip said. "And he just jumped over fence."
That's when Phillip says she jumped onto her children's trampoline. "I thought he'd calm down and maybe wouldn't be so spooked but I was waiting and he just wasn't moving," she said. She says she tried everything to get the pig to leave. "Yelled at him and told him to move," said Phillip.
"And then he went underneath it and was poking his nose on it." The pig then dug a hole and camped out making sure she didn't go anywhere. After two hours of waiting, Phillip had no other choice but to call for help. Phillip said the Bay County Sheriff's Office responded to the call and deputies grabbed a stick to steer the pig back into the fenced area.

"I was behind him pushing him and the officer was behind me pushing me," said Phillip. This wasn't the first time the 350 pound pig made it over the fence and into the yard. "Last time he trapped me on the trampoline, and this time he did it to her," Penny's daughter, Valerie, said. The Phillip family believes the pig enjoys trapping the household females, "Because he needs a girlfriend," Valerie said. The pig is now for sale.

Burrito-eating bus driver caused crash
A bus driver was eating a burrito with both hands when he caused a pile-up of cars, surveillance footage has revealed.
Jeremy Perea was on a route in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in July last year while eating a burrito.
Newly released CCTV shows Mr Perea biting into the snack before putting it beside him, rather than looking at where he was going. His distraction triggered a slow-speed crash that caused damage to three cars, all in the one lane.
Now the city bus department is being sued by a driver who claimed to be hurt in the pile-up. "Our driver was disciplined for eating and drinking on the job, which is against our policy, and for causing the accident," a spokesman said.

"And he has not been in an accident since that day." The lawsuit claimed Mr Perea had been texting while behind the wheel, but the CCTV has revealed the true cause.

Woman found duck-shaped tomato in garden
Marie Davidek from Mount Morris Township in Michigan has found a tomato shaped like a duck in her garden.

"I thought gee, that's kind of strange. And then I put him down and looked at him and thought, to me, he looks like a duck," Marie said. When Marie told her husband about the oddly shaped fruit, he had to see it to believe it.
"I said, no, no. And she showed it to me and I said, it's either a chicken or a duck," Bob Davidek said. "It's hard to believe it grew that way." The couple said they have no plans to cut up the tomato anytime soon.

Marie says she hopes her tomato brings a smile to some faces as she shares her love of gardening. "This is really something that I think a lot of people should see," Marie said. "Maybe somebody else will starting doing a garden."

Seahorses destined for dinner table seized in Spain
Customs officers at Malaga airport conducting a routine suitcase search found two kilos of dried seahorses hidden within luggage of traveller arriving from Colombia.
The Civil Guard said the seahorses had been discovered within plastic bags hidden inside the suitcase of a Chinese traveller arriving at Malaga Costa del Sol airport from Cali in Columbia.
"They were discovered during a manual inspection of the luggage belonging to a passenger arriving in Malaga from Cali via Amsterdam," the Civil Guard said in a statement on Friday.

The passenger claimed that the seahorses were for "personal consumption" but is facing charges for "violating import / export laws on the transport of protected wildlife". Seahorses are a delicacy in China where they are sold on skewers at street food markets and are said to have an aphrodisiac effect.

Passengers surprised by crabs at Metro station
Crabs spotted crawling along a Gateshead Metro station platform have been rescued and moved to a new home in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear.
More than a dozen crabs were spotted crawling their way along the platform on Thursday afternoon.

Metro bosses say a passenger was carrying them in a plastic bag which then seems to have split open. The person then left the station without picking them up. The station’s cleaners were called and they removed the crabs.

A Metro spokesman said: “The cleaner and station staff removed the crabs from the platform at Gateshead Metro station.” They have now been taken to Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth - although only a few have survived.
Terry Mckeon, from the centre, said: “If they manage to survive we will put them in the outside display. We will do our best to look after them but we don’t know what the outcome will be at the moment.” The Metro spokesman added: “This wasn’t an everyday occurrence and our staff acted quickly to remove the crabs from the train and platform.”

Jail for man caught with suitcase full of cannabis
A man has been jailed after he arrived at an airport carrying just a phone charger, a change of clothes, and a suitcase full of cannabis.
Henry Alden, of Portsmouth, Hampshire, was arrested at Edinburgh Airport as he stepped off a flight from Barcelona on 19 May.
He was carrying 11kg of cannabis, which would have had a street value of £110,000. The 20-year-old was jailed for three years and eight months. The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Alden had flown from Luton to Barcelona five days earlier.

Prosecutor Bruce Erroch said the defendant told Border Force officers the suitcase was his, that he had packed it himself and that he was not carrying anything for anyone else. The case was opened and officers found it contained two T-shirts, a polo shirt, shorts, underwear and 11 kilo bags of cannabis.
Alden has admitted illegally importing and being concerned in the supply of the Class B drug. Vincent Belmonte, defending, said Alden was approached with an offer that he would get £5,000 if he went to Spain and brought something back. He said his client had "foolishly" agreed to it.
