A hot bowl of ramen that goes perfectly well with the rainy weather @roku with @chua_cmg (at Roku Sushi + Ramen)

And we had the waves of Baler all to ourselves for a couple of hours (too preoccupied to take actual photos of us surfing) wait for the video edit! #stoked @ceratoots @kai @therese (at Baler, Aurora)
A thing or two I’ve learned while surfing:
1. Let go of the idea of perfection
- I struggled to find the strength to stand up on the board once the right wave comes. After observing me for quite some time, my instructor, Xander Aguas, told me: “Wag mong isipin kung tama man yung pag tayo mo sa board. Ang importante makatayo ka.”
When starting out with something new, stop torturing yourself with the need to get things perfect right away. It takes time so just relax and enjoy. Same thing goes for starting/maintaining a blog, for instance. If you’re thinking of becoming a blogger, do it for fun first. While blog stats and following are important, focusing on the reception aspect will make blogging feel more like a task than anything else.
2. Relax and Enjoy
- This is pretty self-explanatory.
3. Wait for the right wave. Be patient.
- When things aren’t turning out the way you want them to at the moment, it’s ok. The right time will come for you and when it comes, you better make sure you’re well-prepared to ride on it and prove your worth.
4. That little push from the back is always helpful.
- My arms are pretty weak. Until such time I can develop those muscles built with strength and endurance, it helps to have someone give me a little push from to catch a wave. It’s the same in life, I guess. You just have to find that right person with who shares similar goals / ideologies and is willing to push you further.
5. Stop thinking too much.
- Let loose and just go with the flow.
6. Just do it.
- Your mood won’t always match up to the task at hand. If all forms of motivation fails, the best way to go about it is to just drag yourself to a place with minimal to absolutely no distractions and just do it.
That said, if waking up early and hitting the gym feels more like work for you, set the alarm to an hour before you actually have to rise then put your mindset to wake up on auto-pilot. And the most important part, gather all your stuff, without a second of debating and just drag yourself to the gym. From there, you’ll have no other choice but to do it.
FIGHT YOUR ANTAGONIST MOOD.
Early this January I tagged along Sole Sister Lois on another one of her mentoring workshops called Passion Play, a weekend of surfing, yoga and sessions in discovering one’s passions.
In one part of the workshops, we were made to draw out a mind map of the actual things we felt most passionate about and I came up with this visual below.
I was still working in a corporate set-up then but knowing, then and there, that I was going to leave it in due time to pursue my real passions. It took some time for me to take the leap - 7 months to be exact. Even until this day, I haven’t really figured it all out. But you know one secret I’ve discovered in getting your dreams actualized? When all other forms of motivations fail, just drag yourself out there and JUST DO IT.
Dreaming is easy but pursuing it is another story, especially when bumps are hurled at you in almost any pursuit. The key is to keep pushing the way you do it when surfing. No amount of exhaustion should be allowed to get in the way.
It sounds easier said than done , I know. But trust me, when you stay on top of this game, it’s well worth all the time and energy.
A lot of times we get so engrossed in the details and lose sight of the bigger picture. It’s natural for us to fall into that but it doesn’t mean we should simply let it. The key is to look far ahead and know where you’re headed.
Despite the lack of technical know-how letting your heart take charge along with supportive people will somehow help you find its way.
