That is the First thing I’ve heard come out of Iraq that makes me proud to be an American. Whoever that troop is, he deserves a medal and a trip home – for good.
Same asshole could be talking to any police force in the US.
Also, insults are not an effective motivation tool. Who put this raving asshole in charge of training? No intelligent American that I know would regard this as a good job.
Had a new first sergeant in my organization in Vietnam that sounded like this. The troops just started wandering off. At last, I was the only one that was left. He came up to me and screamed, “Why are you still here?” I said that I was observer for the bettors. Half the bets were he would have a stroke, the other half were betting on a heart attack.
I was in the Navy and also ran into people like this; both in Vietnam and in other countries. I didn’t question whether the “Ugly American” story was true, I had first hand evidence.
I agree with John that he needs “a trip home – for good” but leave the medal out of it. What he is doing is counterproductive. If our trainers consider this a normal training procedure for the Iraqi police force I marvel that they are at all productive.
And if it is normal perhaps our military training is broken as well.
