I'm not over exaggerating when I say I can smell the booze wafting from members as they walk off the floor.

So, the Tea Party is going all out in their crusade to destroy America.
I agree with the White House via HuffPo:
…Congress has two jobs to do: pass budgets and pay the bills it has racked up. Republicans in Congress had the opportunity to pass a routine, simple continuing resolution that keeps the government running for a few more weeks. But instead, Republicans decided they would rather make an ideological point by demanding the sabotage of the health care law. Republicans have tried and failed to defund or delay the health care law more than 40 times, and they know this demand is reckless and irresponsible…
But wait, there’s more. Saturday evening, they decided to go all in:
House Republicans have added a measure aimed at limiting contraceptive coverage…
The Affordable Care Act was signed into law four years ago, FOUR. Years. Ago.
Like the President says, ”Congress has two jobs to do: pass budgets and pay the bills it has racked up.”
Oh and No, David Gregory, Democrats aren’t part of the problem here:
“As Congress digs in over Obamacare and the budget, are both parties prepared to take the economy over the edge?” Like the President says, ”Congress has two jobs to do: pass budgets and pay the bills it has racked up.”

Shutdown fever strikes DC house parties. http://instagram.com/p/e1CErDC52r/
Party Games!
It Looms…. but toil not neither do they spin.
Sorry Elliot. I really cannot take any of this craziness seriously.
Rich white brats want to control the country and see it slipping threw their fingers.
HA !
Does this mean that Congress won’t get paid or have healthcare? Inquiring minds want to know.

Or….surely you jest.
I can. I have several people close to me who will lose their jobs if this lasts more than a few days.
I’d like to think that the House GOP and their Senate Pied Pipers Cruz and Lee aren’t so crazy, nor Boehner so craven, as to send 800,000 people off to the unemployment lines — and yes, that’s what they’re doing; if this lasts for 30 days or more, 800,000 people lose their jobs. But I can’t count on that.
Oh, they’ll still get paid.
Republicans and even democrats actually care if any of this happens ???? Not you are being silly.
Not -> Now
lol
Yeah, real people are going to get real hurt – and it won’t be the perpetrators of this banana split
So the Constitution has become a suicide past?
Mayor Vincent Gray: all functions of government are essential.
14th amendment.
No balls Noballma.
Why do I keep feeling that government would make more sense if it was a “reality TV” show? Maybe we can make them all run around naked and not use their smart phones, credit cards, or interns. I’m sure if they did that more people would actually know what’s going on in DC.
It’s all politics AKA Kabuki. He wants a show down just before the elections to make all the republicans look bad.
We of course know the truth. They all look bad.
I like it. “The Government Has No Clothes”
I know that.
The point is that there are many easy solutions. And they all should be pointed out in a strenuous manner.
Now is you who is being silly.
Aloha, Ellie and all…! Details Emerge on the House’s Proposed Spending Bill…
What are you typing about.
Expecting that those in DC would care about anyone here, what they think and the effect this whole mess would have anyone whose income was less that 100 grand. If that.
So it’s come to learned helplessness? Lefties can do nothing except mock people who point out productive solutions? Is that what progressives stand for now?
“Lefties” who have over the years learned that the ONLY solution is to ditch the whole economic and even political system since it’s rigged the favor of those in power and against those who are not. And against any attempt to change it within the system.
So that the best use of ones time and energy is to topple it.
There is a lot of stuff going down during this ‘shutdown theater.’ Congress is overlooking the stuff they are to be caring for. No one is looking out for what is right–or what BS is being shoved through by gov’t agencies. It’s like, Mom and Dad are fighting so us kids can do what we want. In chaos there is opportunity.
So what are the compromise position from Obama, the house, the senate?
What is your plan to ditch the political and economic construct and what is the probability of success? How are you using your time & energy to topple it?
I haven’t seen signs of that on FDL, or other websites I monitor, which is why I ask.
comment recd’
Being of limited resources, spreading the word as best I can.
I haven’t noticed spreading the word for productive solutions.
Calling congresscritters seemed to have “worked” wrt to forestalling bombing of Syria, but I think it was Putin/Lavrov who pulled that off.
Not that I was against calling/emailing. Can’t do any harm.
Looking for ways to make message effective, one of which is to point out hypocrisy every chance you get, other is to (as I tried but you mocked) to point out that there are many other ways to frame situation that lifts debate out of how boneheads and their media moguls try to couch it.
I have asked several times on FDL for an analysis on what has worked, i.e. effected change in progressive direction, and what hasn’t.
Have not gotten a response.
Big NASA centers want a small NASA station in northern Ohio to take on the entire agency’s burden nationwide, to produce all the 15 centers’ renewable energy in the form of 25, 492 foot wind turbines. Centers from FL to DC to VA to AL to TX to NM to CA, and more, want northern Ohio to be their third world nation and rip the birds and major flyways and ecosystem to hell. All of the nation’s NASA centers will jam and concentrate all of their negative impacts and hazards onto 2000 acres in Erie County, Ohio. This seems like a catastrophe. Where is the leadership at NASA? Where is Obama on this screw up of his renewable energy plan? Why not divide up the negative environmental impacts across the nation at all of the different NASA centers? Why not make them all responsible for their own renewable energy whether it be wind or solar? Obama is screwing Ohio. Didn’t Ohio help Obama win twice?
Thought NASA had been privatized. Interesting info that reich wing can still use existing govt agencies to bollux up what they can get their hands on.
Oh, wind towers. What’s the problem? Thought they were the solution.
The worthless Crapstitution says that the House (same with the Senate, President (Veto) and probably the Supreme Court (“Veto”)) can all destroy the government anytime they want. But the Republicans (and DemoRats) in the House won’t because they are owned by the 1% and the 1% do not want to see their perfect economic paradise to collapse. That some peons might get hurt in the “empty threat” Kabuki play is of little concern.
Not so. Many ways around what you type. Why did W admin go out of its way to create unitary executive if lefties can’t use it now.
Refer to #24 wrt 1s. I’ve been on the case of the power of the 1s for a long time. Moved on to next stage of suggesting potential countermeasures.
Meet mostly with rejection & mockery on left. So what. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Key is hard-headed evaluation of whether you are digging a dry hole or spending whatever your talents are in the direction of change you prefer.
Ah, but there is no lefty in the White House just a “Manchurian Republican Puppet” who will not use the unitary power of the Presidency.
Its never going to get bad enough for Obama to be forced to uncork the “Nuclear” 14th Admendment, the Kabuki is just to “surrender” to another “Grand Bargain”.
In the end, the “easy solution” is just the 2347234723427th example of Obama’s duplicity.
For the shutdown itself, I agree that the Tea Party and the major party it evidently controls are the main problems. For Obamacare itself as an alternative to a just and sane single payer healthcare system, Obama and the Democrats are equally to blame, and also for the austerities that inefficient healthcare for profit encourages and provides a pretext for. Ohio Barbarian would straighten out healthcare in no time! Both major parties are holding the country hostage to the 1% and denying economic justice to the 99%.
Thanks eCAHNomics.
Not the solution in main avian flyways when that many turbines are not necessary for one center’s 20 percent of renewable energy. I heard at a meeting they are pushing the turbine burden to one small area in Ohio leaving other centers and communities near by totally free of turbines for the next 25 years. Do you have a wind farm close to you?
Time to start indicting the teabaggers in the House. Put the fuckers in jail for treason.
From what I’ve been reading, Obamacare is so FUBAR, no one in government can even answer basic questions about it. I would think Obama and the Democrats would welcome a delay in its implementation, especially before the midterm elections. That way people won’t start seeing how crappy and fu**ked up Obamacare really is.
If Obama can sweeten the pot by “compromising” on Social Security and other cuts to the social safety net, Obama can keep the promises he made to his corporate paymasters. A win/win for Obama! I’ll bet Obamabots are so glad they gave him four more years to secure his future wealth. They probably think he deserves it.
The R’s don’t control the WH or the Senate, and don’t have a veto-proof majority in the House.
Still waiting for the D’s to propose something as dramatically and outstandingly good for the country as R proposals are bad, grandstanding and filibustering and going on talk shows to fight for it, then offering a compromise that’s a net move in a better direction instead of a worse one.
Frankly, I’m beginning to see thru a glass darkly a subtext to all this congressional political malpractice. It’s been mentioned on other blogs as in “Why do we need congress at all?”
Getting the feeling this dysfunction may be providing an excuse to dissolve the whole thing (congress) and allow the USSC and the WH to enter a dictatorship they obviously want anyway.
So much for “representative democracy” a “republic” or anything resembling the Enlightenment produced Constitution.
Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of our lives…or maybe we’ll just trundle around the same ol’ rut while people keep blaming each other for all of us not thinking the same, robotic thoughts and having bloody wars over it the way we’ve done since written his-story began.
Later……
Hey! I was having visions of whirling dervishes the other day. Good one.
Thank you, Elliott!
I appreciate this reporting so much because this is part of raising the consciousness and spreading the word about how stupid, craven, and unworthy these bastards are. They are drunk in more ways than one and they get paid all the while. Easy for them to play their games.
Not easy for anyone underneath at the mercy of all this crap. And that is the whole country.
This emotion is building and there will be repercussions that we cannot predict or control.
The people are coming. Again.
Okay, kabuki proponents (of which I am one) – let’s put up the first big Distraction in domestic priorities that we the 1%of1% can craft – oh goodie, combine the shambles of Obamacare with the shambles of out of control spending on wars ( and oh, no, not the armed forces – their paychecks are sacrosanct along with ours!).
What’s not to like? And why are we doing this? Well, everyone’s been highly involved in the spectacle at the UN where it is very obvious that on the world stage we are not everybody’s Cup of Tea. So, banish that image! Get back to pretending there are two parties locked in a dramatic domestic struggle – run that baby up the flagpole and do it quick! Threaten those peons (but not our troops, oh no not our troops!) with lose of necessary ongoing payouts (never mind it was their payins that will keep our troops happy; this is what happens when you send your taxes in – somebody else gets to decide how they are spent, and it isn’t you!)
Kabuki. Kabuki. Kabuki. Forget those UN speeches yet? Forget those troops still on standby readiness, eager for nonsanctioned war. (That will be the next distraction if this one doesn’t work.)
“Like the President says, ”Congress has two jobs to do: pass budgets and pay the bills it has racked up.”
Wrong. As the “president” did not say, “Congress has one job to do: Impeach this war criminal.
I am not holding my breath.
I think you maybe correct in this. I have heard a number of common folk suggesting that CEOs and Bankers of people in DC should be thrown into dungeons or worse.
I wish the people would come. We need a revolt. I am ready any time.
That’s the catch. The people do take their time in full and fair consideration and deliberation. We are ready, though. Waaaaay ready.
Bring back tar and feathering
