Good game, poor port.
Not bad, but no custom keys.
Take down LoL's new champ.
Just a little plug: I showed up for a discussion with IGN's Anthony Gallegos, Nic Vargus, and Justin Davis on where gaming in general is headed. Of course, I managed to work in a few mentions of how PC gamers have been doing most of this stuff (modding and free-to-play) for ages. That Leap motion sensor gizmo, though, looks really cool, and puts the Kinnect to shame -- I can't wait to get my hands on (or rather close to) it. Where do you think gaming is going? Read More »
Trying to nail down the 100 most important games of all time is quite a challenge. But 1UP appears to have found a great formula for establishing some of the all-time greats. By combining information gathered from their community, and of course their own favorites, 1UP has established an Essential 100 list that will be revealed in the coming months bit by bit. This week they chronicled parts 75 to 51 and as it turns out, they picked a ton of our favorite PC games. Read More »
You remember Painkiller from way back in the early 2000s, right? It wasn't exactly the deciding factor in the games-as-art, but gosh, was it fun. Now Painkiller: Hell and Damnation is on its way -- announced at E3, it's a remake of the original game and its expansion. The promotional gears have begun to grind now with the release of the first trailer, as well as a trio of screenshots. Read More »
It looks as though the Long Road Ahead could be ending more abruptly than we may think, with Telltale revealing that Walking Dead's third episode is awaiting approval and could be released as early as next week. Additionally, a new video interview with two devs reveals some juicy info, including the debut of two new characters. Read More »
"I'd never need remote guild chat," I once scoffed, "I'm not a nerd or anything." What I really meant was that I wasn't willing to cough up for the small subscription fee that World of Warcraft's Mobile Armory app required to allow me to chat to my guildmates or check up on my auctions even when not at my PC. Now, however, Blizzard's ditching the subscription fee -- meaning that we'll be able to keep a good ol' nerdy stranglehold on in-game happenings even when out and about. Read More »
Get in, we're going for a ride. Whether that's in my biplane or on the back of a truck -- that's up to you in Grand Theft Auto 5, where anything goes (especially when it comes to the acquisition of vehicles). These new screenshots display a few new modes of transport, as well as a glimpse of the scenery we can expect to see in Los Santos -- like the pollution-choked traffic jams I remember so fondly of my last time in SoCal. Need something to wash the bad taste of the sloppy Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition port from your mouth (you know, the mouth in your brain)? How about some screenshots of Borderlands 2's PC menu screens? Sure, Claptrap made a lot of promises in his Love Letter to PC Gamers, but for many of us, seeing is believing -- and now we can believe that Gearbox will include options for unlimited framerate, adjustable field of view, disabling mouse smoothing, and numerous graphical quality settings we expect to see from a PC version. Check'em out, and breathe a breath of fresh air. Read More »
Are you ready? If not, you should really get ready... to get ready. It's time for that gaming industry favorite, the announcement-of-an-announcement. Runic Games announced today that it will finally be ready to announce a release date for Torchlight 2 on Friday, August 31. To be clear, Runic has not actually announced a release date for Torchlight 2, it has announced when it will announce the ARPG's long-awaited launch day. Read More »
There will be blood in XCOM: Enemy Unknown -- buckets of the green Sectoid alien variety and, if you're not careful, some of the precious red stuff from your band of human fighters. Who am I kidding? This is XCOM. You will lose soldiers no matter how carefully you probe the fog of war, and the longer you've had them in your squad, the more it will hurt. They will be the casualties of war, and that's what the latest XCOM: Enemy Unknown trailer is all about. Read More »
Another vote of confidence is in for Arkane's upcoming stealth action-adventure game, Dishonored, this time in the form of the Best of Gamescom 2012 award. We were also suitably impressed with our sampling of Dishonored back in June, enough to name it our E3 Game of Show. At this rate old Corvo won't be sneaking up on anyone when Dishonored hits in October. Read More »
No aliens, zombies, ghosts, vampires (glimmering or otherwise), ninjas, robots, demons, super villains, mutants, dragons, or other monsters of fantasy. In I Am Alive, players face the toxic elements of a shattered, post-apocalyptic world and other desperate survivors who will do anything just to hang on. It's a promising premise, and one that definitely sparks my interest. I only wish this former console exclusive, which is coming to PC next month, didn't receive such mixed reviews. Read More »
I can give it this much: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition does run. Yet when over 100,000 PC gamers petitioned Namco Bandai to bring its popular console action RPG to the PC, this probably wasn't exactly what they had in mind. We've had our concerns over the quality of the PC ever since we first saw it earlier this year, and now that it's here, the worst of them are confirmed: this is just about a worst-case scenario port. It's a shame, too -- it's like getting that bike you asked for for Christmas only to find that it's so poorly assembled you can barely ride it. Read More »
I'm a sucker for the End Times. Wait, that came out wrong. I'm a big fan of stories that take place after the End Times. Considering the Apocalypse is central to the Darksiders series, I had the release date of Darksiders 2 circled on my calendar for most of the year. (Granted, I had to change that a couple of times.) Now that it's finally out, I'm having a hell of a good time playing, but the road there is paved with good intentions and a load of technical issues. Read More »
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive proves that if you have a competitive first-person shooting experience players enjoy, you don't need all the condiments. You know -- the classes, the leveling, the unlocks, the vehicles, the kill streaks, the customization, or any of the other digital bells and whistles that have been added to the genre over the past 12 years. If anything, I might actually enjoy the classic de_dust map more now than I did when I first played it because it has such a welcome, stripped-down, bare-essentials feel in this Call of Duty era. Even after all these years, there may be no better place to put your shooting skills to the test than Counter-Strike. If you don't already have a copy, CS:GO is the place to start. Read More »
Update: Duarnte has now posted his magic mod, which you can download here. We'll test it out shortly.
Update 2: It works!

This is embarrassingly awesome. Apparently a NeoGAF user who goes by the name of Durante has managed to fix the oft-reported limited resolution options of Dark Souls on PC. The best part? He says it took him around half an hour to find the code line, fix it, and apply the change. You can follow this link to the NeoGAF thread to see the high-res screenshot of Dark Souls rendered at 2048x1440 with no anti-aliasing.
