Rift Update "Conquest" Hits This Week

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 24, 2012 7:10 PM | 0 Comments

So a new update is on its way to Rift within the week. I imagine it seeping across Telara's terrain like spilled paint, playing host to strange summer parties and happy, dancing noobs. It's got some cool features, you see, including scavenger hunts and the rewarded fostering of low-level players. Yes! I'm as shocked as you are that we're being encouraged to be nice. This unfamiliar fuzzy feeling will take some getting used to, I think. What else is on the way? Why, come in and let's find out. Read More »

Darksiders 2 Season Pass Includes Free DLC

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 24, 2012 6:09 PM | 0 Comments

If you have an interest in picking up Darksiders 2 upon release and, like me, have a preference for digital stuff (the space-chewing physicality of real stuff sure does get annoying in a one-bedroom apartment), listen up! Depending on how much you value your DLC, it might be worth holding off on the Steam purchase to go for this deal from the digital shopTHQ instead. Read More »

Riders Of Rohan Screenshots Reined In

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 24, 2012 11:13 AM | 0 Comments

That combat video from the next Lord of the Rings Online expansion reminds me that there's a reason we don't do horse-mounted combat in real life. What's that? You think a horse would find it terrifying? Well, yeah, there's that, I guess. Also, the fact that many of us don't own swords. Mainly, though, it's just kind of dizzying. Good thing we now have some static screenshots through which we can enjoy the soon-to-materialize terrain of Riders of Rohan. Click through for our gallery of picturesque delights. Read More »

Mists Of Pandaria Includes All-Important Table Flip

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 24, 2012 12:01 AM | 0 Comments

I am so glad this happened. I was going to flip my shizz if there wasn't a way for my toon to flip her own ingame. Luckily, World of Warcraft's need to remain internet-culturally relevant has seen the inclusion of flippable tables. Read More »

Tryst Would Like To Meet With You

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 23, 2012 1:30 PM | 0 Comments

Tryst, eh. That's a pretty odd name for this newcomer, given that I'm not seeing any secret lovers flitting around, or even just mundane scheduled appointments being attended to. So what is a Tryst, then? Why, it's a futuristic competitive-grade RTS, and it's just dropped off its first teaser for us in a love-letter stamped with a heart-shaped wax seal. (Well, that's how I prefer the delivery of my promotional gaming material, anyway. I hope publishers are taking careful notes.) Read More »

Now You're Thinking With Perspectives

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 23, 2012 12:46 PM | 0 Comments

So guys. My brain just broke. That's a thing that can happen, right? Because I had no coffee before watching the trailer for this 2D/3D first-person/third-person puzzle-platformer, and my brain's gone and split itself neatly down the middle and now its two halves are just kind of floating uselessly in a cerebral stew. You see, Perspective is a game concept that plays on all the perspectives. What does that even mean? I don't know! I'm still trying to come to terms with what I've just seen. Read More »

Hawken Blows It Up In Gameplay Trailer

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 23, 2012 11:50 AM | 0 Comments

I'll admit I had a few doubts about how big bad mechs were supposed to play in the MMOFPS genre. I wondered if pushing massive mechs through a broadband connection would be like trying to chug custard through a straw, and imagined my PC giving out under the pressure and admitting itself to a psychiatric ward to cope. I am a cruel parent. Thankfully, this new Hawken gameplay video suggests that mechs are surprisingly lithe, making for what looks like a fun, fast-paced multiplayer experience encased in a shell of badassery. New Co-Op Shooter Warframe Outlined

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 23, 2012 10:30 AM | 0 Comments

Upon hearing of this game I thought to myself, "Gee, there sure are a lot of these new games whose names are prefixed with 'War.'" After a little more pondering, I realized how wrong I was. The prefix is actually Warf. I imagine that's the exact sound this frozen-in-time space orc would be making as he gets bisected in this teaser video for upcoming co-op shooter Warframe. Read More »

Resonance Review

By Scott Sharkey | PC Reviews | Jun 23, 2012 10:24 AM | 0 Comments

The adventure genre has been getting itself declared officially dead on a pretty much weekly basis for 15 or so years now, which is especially funny with games like Resonance on the table. Wadjet Eye Games, the publisher behind out-of-left-field works of brilliance like The Shivah and Gemini Rue, and developer xii games have surpassed themselves with a game that graphically recalls old school LucasArts-style adventure, while bringing along serious drama, tight narrative, and excellent voice acting. SkyrimProvement: SureAI Mod Team is Creating a Whole New World: Enderal

By Phill Cameron | PC Articles | Jun 22, 2012 4:04 PM | 0 Comments

Usually this column is a place to find a selection of mods to download right now, held under a theme, or just my particular whimsy. Not today. Today's the day that I tell you about something special headed Skyrim's way, that SureAI has turned their Sauron-like eye away from Oblivion, away from Nehrim, and onto Bethesda's latest. Let me introduce you to Enderal. Read More »

Dead State is the Walking Dead RPG I Always Wanted

By Mike Nelson | PC News | Jun 22, 2012 3:19 PM | 0 Comments

The main component of the Walking Dead comic book series that's so compelling for me is that it spends more time on examining the human condition than killing hordes of the undead. The survivors are the "walking dead," not the other way around. I bring this up because Dead State, a recently funded Kickstarter project from DoubleBear Productions, looks to bring more of these sensibilities of human survival to the zombie videogame genre, instead of simply putting a machine gun in your hand so you can go on a killing spree. Serving Of Adult Swim, Drizzled With Team Fortress 2

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 22, 2012 1:12 PM | 0 Comments

When I was last in San Francisco, I made it a mission to sample different flavors of experimental icecream. Everything from bourbon-and-cornflakes to the more conventional chocolate-with-rock-salt was consumed by yours truly in the name of ice cream science. Sure I felt a little sick afterwards, but science. As I now look upon the announcement of Valve's collaboration with Adult Swim, which likens itself to a blending of peanut butter and chocolate, I'm faced again with the stomach-churningly self-sacrificial need to eat all of it. I do this so that you don't have to, my friends. Read More »

Rumor: Assassin's Creed 3 Delayed On PC

By Katie Williams | PC News | Jun 22, 2012 12:15 PM | 0 Comments

If you were looking forward to slaying a sucker -- or several -- in Assassin's Creed 3 in October, I'm sorry. A leaked promo box cover suggests that PC gamers will, in what's become a trend for Ubisoft, have to wait nearly a month after AC3's console release. Read More »
