Star Wars: The Old Republic has done a pretty good job with supplying a constant flow of post-release content. Think about it: it's an MMORPG that has only been out for six months and we continue to get free content updates, and there are even more on the way as evidenced from EA's Press Conference yesterday. But are these upcoming changes to SWTOR the result of plans that were made far in advance, or are they a response to player behavior? Read More »
Be ready, mages. The new edition of Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers is coming out June 20. The 2013 edition of the digital version of the classic collectible card game comes gives us 10 new decks, new puzzles (I love me some MTG puzzles), and a new boss challenge in the legendary Nicol Bolas. For those of you unfamiliar with Bolas, just know that he's a really scary dragon that'll mess your stuff up. Read More »
The Elder Scrolls Online is a bit of a mystery to me. Sure, I'd love to travel through Cyrodiil with a few friends and eradicate the fantasy world of its ever-present bandit population, but developer ZeniMax Online has labeled the campaign in this MMO to be a single-player focused adventure. Sadly, the E3 trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online doesn't help to answer this genre conundrum. It does introduce its version of the fantasy classes you know and love. See TESO's warrior, sorceress, and rogue emerge from the shadows within. Read More »
No trailer. No press conference reveal. Not even a single screenshot. All we have is a logo and a name, which in this case is a sequel to Dead Island, known simply as Dead Island Riptide. Read More »
After BioWare's statements that Star Wars: The Old Republic ostensibly took the place of any potential Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic sequels, many fans have been concerned that the very existence of The Elder Scrolls Online could mean the end of the offline, single-player experience the series' enormous popularity is built on. However, speaking at E3 Judges' Week on May 16th, Zenimax Online's Studio General Manager Matt Firor indicated that Bethesda Game Studios fully intends to keep the single-player roleplaying game gravy train running on schedule. Several of the proud Trek nerds among you might remember a while back when I declared that the mysterious villains of Namco Bandai's actiony co-op Star Trek game would clearly be the Tholians based on the early demo showing JJ Abrams' reimagined starship Enterprise caught in an energy web. Weeeeell about that... turns out the "classic Trek villain" Namco's bringing back is actually the Gorn, another race that appeared in only one Original Series episode. The large, brutish lizard-people are most famous for getting killed by Kirk's DIY bamboo shotgun. Read More »
LucasArts has revealed the first footage of Star Wars 1313, and at the very least, it looks like Star Wars. Hey, at this point, if I don't see a dancing Han Solo, I'm relieved. Sure, it's almost like Uncharted's Nathan Drake was somehow transported into a galaxy far, far away, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Courtesy of Game Trailers TV, get a gander at Star Wars 1313 gameplay within. Read More »
Saddle up your war steed and harness your hatred for all things Orcish, the Riders of Rohan are coming to Lord of the Rings Online, and they're bringing mounted combat with them on September 5. Turbine announced the release date for the massive LOTRO expansion today, promising to deliver a new combat system unlike anything seen in an MMO before. Read More »
Forgive me, I lost touch with Transformers lore right around the time Hasbro marketing decided massive alien robots that can become cars and jets weren't cool enough and introduced massive alien robots that can become dinosaurs. Dinobots. Bit much. Anyway, I had no clue there was a Transformer the size of a skyscraper by the name of Metroplex. He makes a memorable appearance in the new CGI trailer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (as do those silly Dinobots), and it leaves me hoping this one will be more than a console port. Read More »
Free-to-play shooters promise the same competitive multiplayer adrenaline rush at none of the cost, but they actually deliver a sub-par shootout where the winner is the one with the most microtransaction charges on his credit card. At least, that was the case. Thanks to a small-but-growing number of stellar online games, we've finally hit a crucial F2P turning point where "free" should no longer be considered a warning label. I spoke with some of the developers behind this new generation of free to find out how the second generation of free-to-play shooters -- or F2P Version 2.0 -- is redeeming and redefining these games into something great. This looks awesome, but I don't have anywhere to put it. Today Razer announced the Razer Artemis concept controller that comes with a force-feedback joystick, a display console, and an integrated keypad. Granted the whole thing is still a concept, and they haven't shown an actual photo of the MWO peripheral, but if the real thing can stack up to all of the information on the official site this might go down as the luxury gaming item of the year. "Day 0" of E3 (so called because the actual show floor doesn't open up until Tuesday at noon Pacific time) saw presentations from Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony, with a few other games thrown into the mix. Having taken it all in, GameSpy's crew looked at the list and asked the ultimate question: if you could only play three, which would you choose? After much deliberation, here are the pre-show showstoppers that won our hearts and minds today. Read More »
Updated: Just when we thought we had seen everything Assassin's Creed III had to offer, turns out we'll be able to command a ship in battle as well. I'll stop talking at this point and just let you enjoy the embedded clip from Sony's E3 Press Conference. Read More »
Well that wasn't so bad: after a relatively short delay, Batman: Arkham City - Harley's Revenge has come to the PC for $10. It includes a single-player mission playing as Robin to find Batman after he's captured by a grieving Harley Quinn. Read More »
It's a massive island filled with murderous mercs, sexy priestesses, trippy mushrooms, and jungle cats. Safe to say, you might not want to go it alone in Far Cry 3. Good news: you won't have to. During Sony's E3 press conference, Ubisoft revealed that a four-player co-op campaign will be included in its upcoming open-world shooter. Oh, and once you get through the single-player, have your fill of multiplayer, and finish off co-op, you can create your own island adventures with the Far Cry 3 map editor. Read More »
