Man the guns for airship combat!
The deadliest aliens revealed!
Is this the D3 we wanted?
Whether you love it or hate it, you can't deny that everyone has at least been talking about Diablo 3. Blizzard themselves are no exception; today they've written up a wordy game design update addressing players' concerns and detailing plans for patches and hotfixes, with the first patch dropping "within a week." It's a pretty lengthy read, but GameSpy's got yo' back -- click through for the highlights. Read More »
Do you still remember that creepy, semi-live-action Binding of Isaac trailer? Yeah, I don't get much sleep any more, either. Which is fine. All the more time to play the new -- and only -- DLC Wrath of the Lamb, which is now delivering further messed-up nightmares via Steam. And to add to the unending joy of crying to yourself in the fetal position, the original game's been discounted. Read More »
If you're currently dealing with the maximum pain of waiting for the PC release of a game that console gamers have already had their grubby mitts on for two weeks, Steam's offering an admittedly odd choice of consolation prize. Pre-order Max Payne 3 today, and you'll receive a free copy of L.A. Noire. Read More »
Far Cry 3 was the big surprise of last year's E3, and it's got a lot to live up to at this year's convention. I mean, it can't announce itself again, can it? It's having to instead rely on other hype-generation tactics, like this video of the dev team horsing around in the mo-cap studio in preparation to "blow us away," amongst other hyperbolic statements of overall over-confidence that we totally have never heard before from big studios spruiking goods at giant publicity carnivals. ArmA 3 is already being prepped for its E3 parade, ahead of its release later this year. It was set to usurp its older brother's place as man of the house. But now the aging ArmA 2 has made an unanticipated comeback, and it's thanks to brutal zombie survival mod DayZ. Critics are throwing around phrases like "most interesting thing to happen to gaming" and "best zombie game of all time" without abandon, and all your friends have been lost to its contagious wastes. But just what is this DayZ thing, anyway? Read More »
You're probably as sick to death of Tumblrs as I am. I've never quite understood internet denizens' need to collect and repost artsy photographs for the apparent hell of it -- but now Bethesda is keeping an official Dishonored Tumblr, and if I'm being honest, it's really quite pretty. Or as pretty as a frenzied jumping-off-the-roof-to-backstab-a-sucker gif can be, anyway. Read More »
Always-on connections. Auction houses designed to sucker real money out of its unsuspecting users and straight into the publisher's pocket (you know, whenever they eventually get it working). A rocky release necessitating maintenance within hours of launch. Too many goddamn colors. Diablo 3 is clearly thoroughly undeserving of its Metacritic score. Slaughtering Whimsyshire's ponies and teddy bears just hasn't been enough of a catharsis for some players, who have -- in typical, frightening, internet-tough fashion -- taken to forums to threaten Blizzard employees' careers and firstborns. But did you know that Blizzard has actually made it very easy for you to beat its developers into a pulp? Oh yes. Some players have stumbled upon the game's Development Hell, where its zombified developers wander the stone hallways crying for an end to their miserable existences -- and it's you who can grant them that wish, stemming the flow of truly terrible games for good. Okay, serious faces on for a moment. I know we're all about fun and games here, but have you ever considered the role your hearing plays in your gaming enjoyment? I rarely did, until I heard about SignCraft -- an enterprising team of lovely people dedicated to bringing the competitive StarCraft 2 scene to the hard-of-hearing community. GameSpy spoke to the group behind the initiative to find out what they aim to achieve with SignCraft. Read More »
Real-time strategy gaming has a reputation as being harshly competitive, and many gamers steer clear of playing in multiplayer to avoid the danger of losing friends over lopsided victories and excessive celebration dances. So when I manage to corral a few friends for an RTS game night, we usually don't want to play against each other -- we team up and to take down the evil forces of the AI. Suddenly RTS gaming goes from a panicked battle of wits to a more relaxed and enjoyable way of playing together where you can have fun testing out different strategies and wacky builds you would never try when ego was on the line.
StarCraft 2 is the obvious choice that everyone knows, so here's a list of other real-time strategy games that make for particularly memorable co-op experiences -- included a couple games that don't exactly fit the traditional RTS mold. Read More »
Earlier this week, 38 Studios was forced to close, taking its in-development MMORPG Project Copernicus with it to its grave. The fiasco also affected its sister studio Big Huge Games, developer of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. For any of you hoping that a Reckoning patch might still make its way to your hard drives post-studio collapse, I'm sorry to be the one to end all your hopes and dreams -- the studio's lead designer has come forward to say that it'll probably never happen. Have you jumped on Diablo 3's number nine train to hell yet? Or maybe you're a little late to the party, and hesitant to hop on board? I know -- nobody likes being the stared-at tardy attendee, and it's always difficult to catch up on all the gossip, cocktail-swilling, and weapon-bloodying that happened in your absence. Well, if that's the reason you've yet to try Diablo 3, we've got you sorted with some cool character class builds. Read More »
It always kinda freaks me out that Mark Hamill, the largely inoffensive Skywalker kid from Star Wars, went on to play the Joker. And it always kinda freaks me out that he does it so well. He even affects that perpetually-grinning Joker face in the recording booth, as this behind-the-scenes video from Rocksteady demonstrates. Read More »
What's that? A new Metro: Last Light gameplay and interview video? What a pleasant thing to wake up to. Well, if the gameplay would have us believe, it's pleasant that we got to wake this morning at all, really. I'm now a little scared to leave the bunker that is my one-bedroom apartment, because who knows what manner of gargoyles and plaguebearing subway dogs lurk outdoors. Read More »
