An empty-feeling shooter.
Three games to watch.
CoD heads in a new direction.
Does anyone else think of a literal, all-too-motivating foot to the behind when they hear the word "Kickstarter?" Probably a good thing that that's not what Kickstarter actually does, otherwise some of our favorite developers would be seriously sore. Anyway, Gabriel Knight creator Jane Jensen, representing her new studio Pinkerton Road, is the latest to have been delivered a metaphorical measure of motivation: adventure-thriller Moebius has reached its Kickstarter goal. Additionally, Jensen announced she will be developing a second new adventure. Read More »
If you've been mapping out your future of mapping in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, your time has arrived. The CS:GO official blog has announced that the latest beta update includes, among other neat new features, the software development kit. Read More »
If you've been following this upcoming, futuristic take on the Ghost Recon series, you may have been wondering what exactly a Bodark is. Today's new Future Soldier trailer from Ubisoft now answers the question: the name is taken from a Russian legend of men who choose to become werewolves, tinging the strategic Ghosts' biggest adversary with a frightening raw savagery. There is, of course, some exciting in-game combat footage as well. Click through for the video. Read More »
To mark the beginning of a new month, Indie Royale has busted out the appropriately titled May Hurray bundle. Topping the list of games you'll receive is the excellent Dungeon Defenders, an adorable hodgepodge of the RPG, tower defense, and third-person shooter genres. The bundle's minimum price is currently a very delightful $5 Read More »
It took me way too long to figure out why May the 4th was dubbed "Star Wars Day." (Tip, if you're slow like me: say it out loud, and translate from the lisp.) In celebration, BioWare's docked the price of Star Wars: The Old Republic. If you've been thinking about getting into the MMO's intergalactic funtimes, now's your chance - the offer expires this Sunday. Read More »
It's not the full-length CG movie everybody's been begging Blizzard to make for years, but the Diablo 3: Wrath animated short teased in this behind-the-scenes interview looks fairly cool. Blizzard's lined up some impressive traditional 2D animation talent to make it happen. Read More »
Jetpacks-vs-dinosaurs shooter Orion: Dino Beatdown launched yesterday... in the same sense that North Korea launched a rocket two weeks ago. It's been hit with major connection issues, which is kind of a downer for a multiplayer shooter. Spiral Game Studios CEO David Prassel wrote to GameSpy to confirm the problem and promise a fix. If you missed even one day of reading GameSpy.com this week, you're behind the times! Here's your quick fix: our weekly roundup will keep your finger on the CPU-powered pulse of PC gaming. This week: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 could be the step forward for the franchise we've been waiting years for, The Elder Scrolls Online is real (and we're not so sure that's a good thing), we're already counting the days until Company of Heroes 2, and more. The wrap-up starting gun has sounded. Let's go! Read More »
Vindictus legitimately surprised me. Korean MMOs have a reputation for running entirely on creaky, grind-loving gears, but this one kicked off by pitting me in semi-emotional and extremely cinematic conflict with a town's former guardian. Admittedly, said guardian was also a giant spider, so you'll forgive my lack of Scooby-Doo-worthy surprise at the fact that the whole deal went south. At any rate, that -- combined with combo-heavy, timing-and-skill-based battles -- gave the impression of a particularly daring dive into the MMO landscape's relatively still waters. Understandably, I was excited. Read More »
It really is awe-inspiring what kind of PC gaming hardware $1,600 can buy you today. A 2GB GeForce GTX 680 and an Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770K CPU (overclocked to 3.9GHz) represents basically the most state-of-the-art hardware you can get without going absolutely insane. iBuyPower's LAN Warrior II is that, plus 8GB RAM and a bare-minimum 60GB SSD, packed into a small but sturdy case. This thing would eat Diablo 3 for breakfast. Read More »
Not all Kickstarters are a gamble. All three of this week's games are pretty much sure things to happen in one form or another, but nothing makes a good thing better like a fresh infusion of cash to push it from good to great. Presented for your consideration: two promising space trading games and a fantasy turn-based strategy RPG from a development team that really gets into character. Read More »
You only get one first impression, and I'm sad to say that from where I'm sitting, The Elder Scrolls Online has blown it. After this morning's Elder Scrolls Online teaser trailer that showed exactly nothing, Game Informer posted a single screenshot that reveals the look of the long-in-the-works MMORPG. Gotta say: it's a huge letdown. If you'd shown me this screenshot and asked me to guess what it came from, I would never have guessed it was an Elder Scrolls game. Read More »
Somebody needs to get Relic Studios a decoder ring or something. They can't seem to keep secrets to themselves. We found out through a leaked image of PC Gamer's upcoming issue that Company of Heroes 2 is officially coming soon. Today, Relic sent out word that they will do a more official reveal on May 7. When you think about it, the Western Front of World War I was nothing but an enormous, awful tower-defense game where both sides built bigger and better defenses with which to exterminate the poor soldiers whose only role was to make doomed massed attacks against intricately engineered death traps. Toy Soldiers takes that grim setting, chemical weapons and all, and transplants it to an old-fashioned toy box in a child's playroom. It's an incredible conceit, and maybe the best thing about Toy Soldiers is how it brings it all to life with fantastic art and lighting. Read More »
Let me be among the first to direct a hearty guffaw at those who got banned for using a Mastery exploit in League of Legends. Then I'd like to extend a congratulatory handshake to the fine folks at Riot Games for taking those suckers out. Good job, friends. Read More »
A Bethesda produced Elder Scrolls MMORPG just isn't a good idea.
In the world of free-to-play, addictive gameplay can be your worst enemy.
Add some new tricks to put up your mage's big droopy sleeves.
