"...if you're looking for bang for your buck, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has it in droves. Then again, if you're looking for an immersive adventure backed by combat that doesn't only put other RPGs to shame, but in fact many action games, too, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has that as well."1-Up - B+
"Reckoning stands as a triumph; it's a first-time RPG from a studio known for RTS games, and a new property from a new company. It's a bold and audacious game that impresses me enough to wonder what its follow-up will be like. And, to circle back, it reminds me of the first time I heard The College Dropout: I can trace its roots and identify what he's sampling from, but overall, it's a damn good first effort."Games Radar - 8 / 10
"Amalur does a lot of things better than some of the best out there. The combat is stronger than Skyrim’s by a long shot, and the world feels more alive than games like Fable. It tells a good story well, and lays the foundation for a series we hope to see more of in the future, fate be damned."Gamespot - 7.5 / 10
"How much you love Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning depends on what you look for in a role-playing game. Let's say you long for a pervasive sense of time and place, for a great story featuring memorable characters, or for varied quests given weight by superb context. If that's you, then Kingdoms of Amalur will disappoint."
At launch players can fly just one plane for free, the Vans RV-6A two-seater with a single engine, throughout the "Big Island" of Hawaii. If that's not enough, for ten bucks of your hard earned MSP the "Hawaiian Adventure Pack" can be picked up over Games for Windows LIVE, which further expands the territory to cover the remaining Hawaiian islands, and provides access to another aircraft, along with twenty extra missions. We're told that among the planned aircraft for the title are the Maule M-7-260C, and the North American P-51 Mustang.
To learn more, head on over to the official website. We've also been sent a link to the new behind-the-scenes Aircraft trailer, which you can take a look at below. Neato!
I was browsing the Diablo III Forums when I found this Direct 3D filter that does a pretty good job at fixing some of the chief complaints against Diablo III's graphics style. Tired of the 'muddy' textures and lack of detail? How about the 'cartoony' colors and style?
Well there are currently 11 flavors of filter options you can use to get the grittier Diablo III you've been dreaming of. Personally I like to take it all the way to the Hardcore, but if you want to keep more of the colors or eliminate the sharpness, there are options for you as well.
The best thing about this filter is it is not a mod, and therefore doesn't violate any user agreements. See the video below, as well as all of the download links and full instructions after the break.
So here's something that up until now only the VE crew knew about. You see, your homeboy Ohm has actually been a college student this entire time. I never really spoke of it because I didn't want to be perceived in the wrong way. You know, either as the punk teenager (which I most definitely am not), or the old-timer that's way too late to the party (which I guess I kind of am). Anyways, just days ago I finally received my associate's degree with honors diploma in the mail. I've also earned enough credits in both business and psychology to pursue either as a major.
It's kind of a big deal for me, and something that I'm really proud of. This is primarily because I never really had the opportunity to go to college when I was younger (long story, but I had to start taking care of myself at 16). The decision to start school as an adult was kind of last minute, and followed some other significant life events. I'm where I'm at now though, and in a couple of years I should have a bachelor's degree in business administration. The problem is a number of opportunities out there most likely won't fit with the situation I'm in right now, and will continue to be in.
So do me a favor my friends, and role-play a little Dr.Sbaitso for me. Should I try to monetize my Youtube channel while simultaneously sharing content here at VE? Seek out freelance reviews or news spots elsewhere? Get serious about branching off an external site on the side with some other VE pals? Become a successful dropout like Bill Gates? It's like a choose your adventure game, except you'll help me choose mine! I do love Youtube, but I don't think I'd ever see myself doing crazy shit like this:
We've seen other companies like Riot Games run referral incentive programs before, but I'm thinking this is the first time reserving your callsign has been tied to such a program. The good news is it's really quite harmless, and it's actually a pretty smart move by the Hawken team to help get the word out that the opportunity to beta test is coming.

For all you modders patiently awaiting the forthcoming Skyrim Creation Kit, you should see it released on Tuesday according to Pete Hines' tweet.
Additionally, his tweet hints at a little something extra adding " And, we also have a special surprise with it. #whatcoulditbe!?" Time will tell what the special surprise turns out to be, but I can't wait to see what the modding community can kick out once it gets its hands on the Creation Kit.
WARNING: The demo is REALLY, I mean REAAALLLY, hard. The Level included is on maximum level of units.
My suggestion after playing quite a bit with the full preview build is to take your time, and plan out your engagements. It's actually a lot of fun once you realize that you can't just throw yourself at the enemy.
For a full list of changes, hit up this link.
If you'd like to jump in and play you can still pre-order and get immediate access to the Steam beta for $35 bucks.

Voodoo Extreme is a special place, dear to many of your hearts. I have a hard time thinking of a website that allowed such freedom of speech to its readership. Really it is sort of like the chans, except we actually talk about video games, and the site isn’t teeming with degeneracy. I’m glad to have been a part of the VE, if only for a short while.

It is a weekly ritual now that I go back and try to remember a funny video for you guys that I had watched recently, I succinctly realize that I have a terrible memory, and then I go in search of something fresh. This is just one sad example of how we are being re-wired in the way we think. This study came out about 6 months ago, but has once again re-affirmed it's validity in my life. In a way it is so simple it is common sense, but when you don't think about it, it can creep up on you, like slowly losing your eyesight, and not realizing how far you had come until you put on glasses. Similarly, I think many of us don't realize how dependent we have become on the Internet and always having the answers at our fingertips. It is a very efficient way to do things, your brain doesn't have to store any useless information, and if you do need it, it can usually be accessed in seconds. However, if something happens and the Internet is gone one day down the line, are we all going to be collectively screwed, and have to re-invent the wheel in many areas where our memories have failed us?
Anyways, I thought that was interesting. Nothing like doing late night updates to make your thoughts drift into the existential. Beyond that I've played a few rounds of LoL this week, as well as some Dota 2. LoL still feels like I'm going back to preschool to play with blocks after playing Dota 2, but LoL has shiny new characters they are dangling for me to unlock still. I'll be very interested to see what Valve does with Dota 2 to give that sense of value to player progression and add to the addiction. Diablo III is still fun, I think after this latest large patch it is actually feeling more fun than ever, though it is hard to not constantly feel OP when you're re-running a small section of the first act over and over again.
Since I couldn't remember anything funny to show you, here's a video Ohm hooked me up with, should be especially entertaining for those of you who grew up in the 90's or really got into the Weird Al Polka stuff. Enjoy, and enjoy your weekend.
