DAOC is a very social game. Even at the early stages, many of the encounters and RVR are geared for the group experience. After playing for any length of time, you get to know people within the game be it guild mates, alliance members or just people who get to know your name and group with you. Bonds and friendships form.
I started off playing the game with my son, and we did have pretty much a set group that we ran with. Within that group one couple decided to meet in real life. They started dating, and eventually moved in together. Through the years, I've heard a number of stories about people who've met their significant others in game. The Blackheart Pirates guild on Gaheris has a yearly get together so that guild members can meet and greet each other during a weeklong, summer vacation event. I've never gotten the opportunity to attend, but the group that regularly does so has a blast getting together each year.
This week, Topic of the Week wants to hear your stories about real life meetings with in game friends.
I'm looking for some topic ideas. If you have one you'd like to see posted, please drop me a line!

Most people in game use Ventrilo, TeamSpeak or Skype when they play. It just makes playing so much easier to be able to push a button and talk rather than try to type while fighting, casting, healing, etc. Everyone that uses these means of communication has had at least one moment that something funny or bizarre has happened that gives them a chuckle.
A while back, when I was in Redheaded Stepchildren our regular group was in vent together. Ageamyar often had his mic. set for voice activation. I think it was just because he wasn't co-ordinated enough to mash buttons, and click to talk at the same time. One night, while he was afk his telephone rang and everyone in Ventrilo got to hear him profess his innocence to his girlfriend. "No baby, I wasn't with herI would never cheat on youyou know how much I love you". He was off heads, and couldn't hear us telling him he had an open mic. Nor could he hear the roars of laughter from everyone in vent. It's a moment he's never lived down and one we won't forget. Love ya Nick but told you I'm never gonna let you forget this one!
Do you have a funny Ventrilo / TeamSpeak moment to share? Topic of the Week would love to hear about it.

MMORPG.com have posted an interview with DAoC's producer, Stuart Zissu, discussing the recent anniversary, community and more.
MMORPG.com:Why does the three realm break down in Dark Age of Camelot work so well? How come we have not seen it replicated as much in MMOs as it probably should have been?
Stuart Zissu:There are many reasons why the three realm system works, but I think the biggest is the self-balancing. When one realm gets too far ahead, it's only a matter of time before the other two realms knock them down a notch. This allows for an ever changing and engaging RvR gamespace and reduces the feeling of hopelessness that can occur with a 2 sided conflict. With only 2 sides, if one gets too far ahead, it is tough for the underdogs to make a comeback.
As to why we haven't seen three realm RvR more, I think that is because of the difficulty that is inherent with it. It is a lot of hard work to balance a game for two sides, let alone three. Even after 10 years, we are still tweaking things here and there.
MMORPG.com:The community still remains very active in DAOC, how is it working with them over all these years and managing the veteran players?
Stuart Zissu:The players are key to a game like this: they keep the game going, they make RvR dynamic and exciting, they tell us what they like and what they don't like, and they are why we are still here. We have multiple ways to collect feedback from our players, and whether they believe it or not, we do see every single one that comes across our plates. Many of our changes to the game have come directly from players or as a result of what players were discussing on boards. We also watch and listen to what players are doing and saying in game to get an idea of how we can make things better. In the end, the players are our best resource.
