Because, of course, Tea Partiers are just innately civil, nonviolent people who only want to reduce government spending:

Tea party member gets 8 years for attacking Obama supporter

A Gwinnett judge sentenced a tea party member to serve eight years in prison for attacking and hospitalizing a President Barack Obama supporter during a 2009 bar room altercation, a prosecutor said Thursday.

GDP-LarryMorgan.jpgLarry Morgan
Jurors convicted Carnesville resident Larry Morgan, 39, of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated battery this week for smashing several bones in the victim’s face with a pool cue on Jan. 31, 2009 — a few days after Obama’s inauguration. Deliberations took only an hour.

The single blow, which broke the pool stick in half, happened about 1:30 a.m. at Will Henry’s Tavern in Stone Mountain, said Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Taylor, who prosecuted.

The victim, Patrick O’Neill, then 24, was hospitalized for five days and endured a months-long recovery. He testified that he suffered numerous facial fractures, including a broken nose and orbital ethmoid bone, Taylor said.

“The pictures of his injuries were some of the most egregious pictures I have seen,” Taylor said. “(He) is very lucky to be alive.”

According to testimony, trouble began when Morgan was talking to other bar patrons about his negative feelings about Obama, when one of O’Neill’s friends said he had voted for the president.

Morgan replied, “Well, you are stupid as hell,” before making some racist comments or jokes, witnesses testified, Taylor said. All people involved were white, she said.

Later, O’Neill and his friend were laughing about or poking fun at Morgan’s comments when he became angry, fetched a pool cue and broke it across O’Neill’s face. The impact was so forceful that the victim had no memory of being struck or the circumstances leading up to it, Taylor said.

Morgan, who testified he considers himself a tea party member, told the court he was acting in self-defense. He claimed O’Neill and his friend had threatened “to beat him up in the parking lot,” Taylor said, recalling testimony.

There, you see! It's just another liberal plot to make Tea Partiers look like violent thugs.

...where DID I leave that pool stick?

prison he's going to.
He'll be having enough "fun" while he's in there without it. *

He'd better hope and pray he gets isolated from the rest of the prison population, because I think that if they could vote, many of the inmates there would have voted for Obama. That's not exactly a plus for Bubba Morgan.

*And no, I'm not advocating male anal rape in prison. I'm just stating a fact.

What makes it sad is, among other things, that this is not surprising. The entire toxic brew of xenophobia, racism, violence (however carefully couched in "plausible deniability), glorification of ignorance and flat-out insanity has been spewed for so long and such volume, that I wonder how many other of these "isolated incidents" go unreported.

From FUX News:

A man was given a cruel and unusual punishment, which is unconstitutional, just for getting into a bar fight. Why, because the assaulter was a Tea Partier, the victim a liberal Obama supporter. Not that assault is okay. It's not, and the Tea Partier deserves to be punished. But 8 years for a mere bar fight? How often do liberals suffer the same punishment for the same crime? They are committed all the time by members of the radical left. Why, just the other day, a liberal was seen telling a conservative that he was not a nice person. This far leftist will suffer no penalty for that, even though it's the exact same crime.

From Corporate Newslike Nonsense:

There are reports today that a Tea Partier who assaulted an Obama supporter so badly that he broke facial bones was sentenced to 8 years in prison. We'll discuss the controversy surrounding the fight and the sentence. Here today are two members of the Tea Party, Republican Congressman Eric Cantor, and a moderate journalist. Folks, what do you make of this? . . .

From MSNBC:

Today the Tea Party just might have received a blow due to blows one of its own members had doled out. A self professed Tea Partier struck an Obama supporter in the face and head with a pool cue causing severe injuries, and was sentenced to a very tough prison sentence for it. Tea Partiers, who say they are just civil protesters in favor of freedom, well, perhaps that's not really the case. Here to discuss this with me is Pat Buchanan . . . .

A bar fight?

The nationwide crime watch for anything involving "the Tea Party" must be getting really thin. What's it up to now? Around two dozen incidents over the course of three years in a nation of over 350 million people?

I'm sure there were far more bar fights involving Steelers fans just last Sunday. Does that mean all Steelers fans are inherently violent? How about those that listen to heavy metal or play violent video games?

This type of pseudoscience can be used to smear pretty much any group you choose.

Poplawski was probably a Steeler fan, too.

Of course it was the frequent exposure to bar patrons which caused this guy to join the tea party since it was not even a figment of anyone's imagination at the time of this incident.

"January 24, Binghamton New York - Trevor Leach organized the first Tea Party of 2009 in response to newly proposed taxes on beverages containing less than 75% fruit juice."

Is the point some people are violent? I am a student of history..lets talk a walk. JFK had to be careful going to Dallas because those violent right wing, gun carrying Texans may hurt the Prez. A left wing card carrying communist shoots our President, a Dallas Police Office is shot and killed trying to aprehand Oswald. So much for the violent conservatives on that one. His brother, Robert , killed by a member of the peace loving Muslims of Palestine, Sirhan Sirhan. The media was afraid for Robert, he was liberal, anti-Vietnam...you know how those violent conservatives are. MLK is shot down by a white racist. Pres Ford is shot at by a looney hippie(thats unfair) Manson follower. Pres Reagan is shot by a white mental patient. Pres Bush #1 is targeted for assination by Iragi leader Saddam, it never happens. President Anwar Sadat is assinated by a Muslim group closely associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Estimated 12 million Russians are killed during their Communist Led Govt. Mao's leadership oversaw 12-18 million chinese deaths. Pres Castro takes over Cuba after ousting US backed dictator Batista. Over the next 45+ years there are no free elections, hundreds of thousands are killed, gays & Aids patients are locked up. The US engages in 4 wars without a declaration of war as REQUIRED by our constitution ! Liberals, the Best & Brightest left & right , and conservatives wage war in violation of the US Constitution. The ONLY political party/movement demanding strict following of our laws in the Tea Party. Keep trying to knock them down with every stupid trick you can try. If our constitution had followed we would NOT have entered at least 2 of them. We would have a balanced budget, we would not be sending Americans money to prop up dictators around the world. As far as I can tell, the revolution in the US is the TEA PARTY. How does it feel to be the anti change voice?

Karen's picture

Please replaceTea Party with...oooo, black people, mexicans...how do you NOT see your own crazy logic?

Because nationality and race are not self-selected groupings. One has no choice about being a member of one's race or being born in a particular country. As such, members of a particular race or nationality are likely to be as diverse a group as the general population, running along a very similar bell curve.

Members of groups that are chosen, particularly groups chosen for a particular ideology, just aren't the same. Generalities about their beliefs and behaviors can be made much more readily and accurately. The teabaggers are self identified, self selected. They choose to affiliate with the teabagger movement for a reason. As such, they'll have a lot more characteristics in common in terms of beliefs that influence behavior than members of a race, nationality or larger culture.

Take the teabaggers out of the equation, and you should be able to see your own faulty logic. Instead of the teabaggers, let's use the KKK. (No, I'm not saying that the teabaggers and the KKK are one and the same.) Members of the KKK choose to be members of the KKK because of its ideology. Its ideology attracts a certain kind of mind. Calling members of the KKK prone to violence is not bigotry the way calling black people prone to violence is. One is a self-selected group that attracts people for a reason. The other is a quirk of birth that does not reveal much about any individual member in terms of his or her behavioral inclinations, with the exceptions of the very broad generalizations one can draw about a large culture.

The ONLY political party/movement demanding strict following of our laws in the Tea Party.

If only the teabaggers actually understood the law they demanded be followed "strictly."

And no, they're not the only movement that demands strict following of our laws. There are other groups out there who want the Constitution followed according to its words, and they have a much better understanding of what those words actually mean. Only, they don't have a FUX News outlet to glorify their existence.

Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

Thanks

Okay Guys.

I have a somewhat large and looming issue with the title of this article, and with parts of the information in it.

Timing

The altercation in the bar happened 1/31/2009. The history of the Tea Party did not exist at that time. The first 'Tea Party' events were organized on 1/24/2009 in New York. The first actual Tea Party protest did not occur until February 2009.

So, sorry guys, he can't be 'considered' a Tea Party member, at least not when this incident in question occurred. He was just your average garden variety bigot and bully. He's latched on to the 'Tea Party' as HIS, after the fact.
