Jimmy Norman

Jimmy Norman
Tough R&B; from 1962 with a great raw sound. The intro is fantastic, especially when he says, "THIS IS ME...".

Without going into a long history (that's what Google is for) and details I'll just give you a brief snippet from the NPR site:

Singer and songwriter Jimmy Norman has been an R&B; institution for over 50 years. He played with Jimi Hendrix in New York's Greenwich Village, wrote the lyrics for "Time is on My Side" -- later a hit for the Rolling Stones -- and sang with the Coasters for three decades.

The song was written and the record produced by Soul legend H. B. Barnum. Listen to the track below:

This is a great one! So raw and pounding.

A great, underappreciated R&B singer. He put out a great album, Little Pieces, in 2004. Thanks! W.

Great answer song to Barbara George's great hit: I Know (You Don't Love Me No More)

I love telephone R&B songs (there are quite a few that start with a phone call). Great sax (baritone?) solo in this one.
