Have You Ever Wanted To Mix Majesty's Universe With Civilization? Meet Warlock!
- BERJAYA 8 Comments
Warlock: Master of the Arcane is an upcoming turn-based strategy game set in the Majesty Universe. Instead of laying out bounties and other incentives for virtual knights and wizards in a real-time environment, Warlock will have players exploring and conquering world maps dominated by hex tiles nearly identical to those seen previously in Firaxis' Civilization V.

Given how fun Master of Magic was back in the day, and of course other classics like the Heroes of Might and Magic and Age of Wonders, I think it may very well be worth giving Warlock a little look-see.

Warlock -- Master of the Arcane is a new turn-based strategy game set in the fantastical land of Ardania, popularized in Majesty franchise. Warlock -- Master of the Arcane invites players to take on the role of the Great Mage and build a powerful magical empire, giving mighty mages the ability to control armies and wield magic to wage war against one another, as they compete with other wizards for the title of Warlock.

Warlock -- Master of the Arcane offers a wide range of military units --three different races, along with summons and wild creatures -- as well as providing dozens of spells, from which players can discover powerful spell combinations to help attain victory over their adversaries. With epic battles to fight, gods to side with, and an innovative city management system, players must strike a balance between military might and magical prowess to remain the last mage standing.

GameSpy Puts Up First Major Details On Sins of a Solar Empire
- BERJAYA 1 Comment
GameSpy's new Editor-in-Chief Dan Stapleton got the hookup on several poppin' fresh exclusive screenshots, along with some very tasty nuggets of information on the upcoming Rebellion stand-alone expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire. You'll want to check out the full two-page interview with Brian Clair for the whole shebang, but first here's a little teaser to get your mouth watering.

GameSpy: So you're dividing the existing three factions -- the TEC, the Advent, and the Vasari -- into a Loyalist and a Rebel faction each. How is playing as a Rebel faction going to differ from playing as a Loyalist faction?

Brian Clair: Well, it depends on which race you play. The TEC Loyalists are very defensive. If you're a gamer who likes to turtle, they're probably the best suited for you. They've been designed with that in mind. The TEC Rebels are very aggressive, so if you're a player who likes to go out, doesn't turtle at all, moves very quickly from one target to the next, they would fit you the best.

GameSpy: What are some of the abilities that the TEC Loyalists have that make them more defensive?

Brian Clair: One of the things that defines each faction is their Titan, which is a super capital ship, for lack of a better way to put it. Their Titan is very defensively oriented, in terms of giving defensive buffs to surrounding fleets so they survive longer. The TEC Loyalists' research gives them bonuses when they're in their own territory. Basically, the player is rewarded for slowly progressing and not rampaging, destroying everything in sight.

BlizzCon Canceled for 2012
- BERJAYA 10 Comments

In an announcement for the 2012 Battle.net World Championship Blizzard let fly the little fact that they are too busy trying to get Diablo III, Heart of the Swarm, and Mists of Pandaria in gamer's hands to hold a BlizzCon this year.

“Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.

We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.

More details about the 2012 Battle.net World Championship and BlizzCon 2013, including specific dates and locations, will be coming in the months ahead."

Does this mean that even almighty Blizzard has to have some kind of time considerations on game development? With all of the panels, game demos, etc. that they put together for BlizzCon each year, it's no wonder that it takes a nice chunk of time out of their development schedule. Other guesses as to why they are skipping it this year might include the fact that they've already given out significant information on all of their major upcoming releases, and aren't quite ready to spill the beans on their in development MMO "Titan" just yet.

Art thou sad at this travesty, or are you just glad to have another year to work on your costume?

Wow, what a week right? It has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride around here. First all funding gets cut and it feels like the end of an era, then you all show up and reminded us of exactly why we love VE - the best damn community I've found on these big 'ol internets. So a sincere thank you to all of you who voiced your support, and who come here to read our often goofy musings every day. You've definitely bolstered our spirits a bit, and personally give me a reason to fight to keep this community alive one way or another.

One thing I must mention that's been bothering me. Why does the Demon Hunter's Evasive Shot skill sound like a 12 gauge shotgun going off? Come on Blizzard, I know you want to make all of the skills interesting and exciting to play with, but don't Michael Bay a crossbow on us now.

Alright enough whining and complaining! How about some Thursday morning humor? I'm sure some of you have seen this very rare footage already, it is of Jube (with a fresh haircut) at a traffic stop in her native hometown in Canada. I for one am glad she found the wax for her mustache and has sobered up enough to not have gained a life sentence yet. I'm not sure who the other's are in the video, I assume they are her dogs and or niece and nephew. Enjoy.

Kalypso Rolls Out Jagged Alliance: Back In Action Gameplay Trailer
- BERJAYA 6 Comments
I'd like to think that Kalypso made their latest gameplay trailer in reaction to my very own real-time gameplay video (which skipped plan-and-go entirely), but I'm probably hitting the crack pipe too hard these days. Hopefully fans can appreciate both styles of play, in place of the turn-based system that was seen in the previous games.

Based off my experience with the preview build on Steam I found Back in Action to be a lot of fun, even with the changes to the formula. You can snag a copy of your own next month.

- BERJAYA 7 Comments
This Valentine's Day, players of Trion Worlds' Rift are going to try to set a Guinness World Record for most virtual marriages. /Snicker. So Trion Worlds wants to invite people who are afraid to commit in real life to give it a shot the MMO way first, and become part of a world record at the same time. The record will be for "Most Virtual Marriages In A 24 Hour Period", and the attempt will begin at 9AM PST on February 14. By the way, same sex marriages are permitted, but you cannot tie the knot with a player of the opposing faction. Better start saving up for those rings! What's the ring-buying guideline in a video game? Six times your monthly vendor sales?

Rumor: Xbox 720 To Be 6x More Powerful Than Current Consoles
- BERJAYA 42 Comments
Our parent company IGN received a few interesting tidbits of information from someone close to the next generation Microsoft console project. According to said source(s), the Xbox 720 will offer six times the power of the current generation Xbox 360, and as much as 20% performance over the upcoming Nintendo Wii U. The "720" will reportedly use a graphics chip similar to the ATI / AMD Radeon HD 6670 in terms of performance, which will support Microsoft's DirectX 11, along with 3D, and 1080p output.

The source also suggests that Microsoft's next console will be in stores as soon as October 2013, assuming the world doesn't end in 2012.

It's a shame there aren't kill streams in Battlefield 3, otherwise this dude would be just about to drop a nuke. I can't say I've seen a better outcome on a flank in all my years of playing FPS games.

Blah...
- BERJAYA 31 Comments
Wouldn't you know, somehow I got to be the one that got stuck with doing the first non-queued morning update following the bad news we got (see Jube's post from yesterday), and let me tell you it sucks. It's really hard to think about anything else at the moment, it has truly consumed us all, and left so many questions and unknowns. Voodoo Extreme has been a regular part of my routine not just as someone who's written for the site, but also as a reader, for nearly half of my life.

It's so strange really, to be in this position where technically we can continue to keep things going, although under a different arrangement. There's a part of me that wants to keep what I perceive to be an extension of Billy Wilson's legacy going. Honestly, it'd be easier if I was a lottery winner, or one of Bill Gates' kids. I just never saw this particular scenario coming. I mean shit, there were times I wondered if we could even try to get his son Dax on board one day (assuming he doesn't get assimilated by the console crowds), talk about long-term thinking.

With all things considered though, you guys are the best, really. Even though we've all seen our share of the drama in the olden times, perhaps even some trolling, and the occasional summoning of our good friend Derek Smart, the VE community has been one of the most loyal, honest, and entertaining communities I've ever been a part of. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a resolution, compromise, or new beginning that we can all be happy with.
