The mission of the Library-Archives Division of the Wisconsin Historical Society is to acquire, preserve, and present records and information documenting the history of Wisconsin comprehensively and aspects of North American history. As the State Archives it holds the records and publications of Wisconsin state and local governments. The Library-Archives Division is also a major manuscript repository and serves as the American history library for the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Archived web sites of Wisconsin county government agencies and regional planning commissions (RPC) archived by the Wisconsin Historical Society to document records distributed via agency or RPC websites. The "Date" field in the description of individual county web sites refers to the dates a web site has been archived, so "2013- " means a web site has been archived from 2013 to the present. The "Coverage" field refers to the dates of material found on the web site, so "2000- " means that there is content on the web site that dates from 2000 to the present. Policy and procedural records such as board and committee meeting minutes, reports, hearings, planning and economic development, conservation, health, and sheriff?s department information are generally within scope; routine daily business such as tourism information, business listings, school districts, and library and museum details generally are not. Internal links on archived web sites are usually captured; external links are out of scope and generally not captured. See the "FAQs About the Wisconsin Historical Society Web Archives" page on the WHS website for further details regarding navigation of archived websites and information regarding crawl frequency and selection of websites for the Archives.
