Monty Python Upperclass Twit of the Year

With the Romney political insanity that took place over the last couple of days, I just had to bring up this classic Monty Python skit:

Has Mitt Romney jumped the shark?

In light of today's political news insanity, I have to ask, has the Mitt Romney campaign jumped the shark?  From YouTube:

Then again, the Fonz could probably run a better presidential campaign than Mitt Romney could ever jump the shark....

Obama Impersonator Cracks Racist Jokes at Republican Event

This is from the New York Times:

NEW ORLEANS — A comedian impersonating President Obama who was hired to perform here on Saturday at the Republican Leadership Conference delivered racially tinged remarks about Mr. Obama’s heritage and offered a mocking assessment of the Republican presidential candidates.

The impersonator, Reggie Brown of Chicago, opened his act by joking about Mr. Obama’s family history, referring to his white mother from Kansas and his black father from Kenya. He said that he was born in Hawaii, adding, “or as the Tea Partiers like to call it, Kenya.”

He said that Michelle Obama, the first lady, enjoys celebrating all of February, Black History Month. He said the president celebrates only half the month.

“My mother loved a black man and, no, she was not a Kardashian,” Mr. Brown said later, referring to the family that stars in reality shows. Khloe Kardashian, who is white, is married to Lamar Odom, who is black and plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The audience, which was nearly entirely white, watched with befuddlement as the impersonator told them to look into the future to see what the Obamas will look like when they are retired. An image of a feuding husband and wife, from the TV show “Sanford and Son,” was flashed on screens in the ballroom.

Republican strategist Doug Heye wrote a message on Twitter, "Wonder why many minorities have problems with the G.O.P? Our own fault." What were the Republicans thinking of, when they hired this guy for entertainment at a political event? What is even more ironic is that Brown then made "derogatory jokes about Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Newt Gingrich before his hosts cut him off with loud music and escorted him from the stage before his act was over." So while Brown was cracking jokes on both Obama and the starting lineup for the Republican presidential candidates, the Louisiana Republican Party, who hired Brown, apparently did not like the jokes against their party's candidates and cut him off.

Here is some of the YouTube video of Reggie Brown's performance:

Watching it, the "Republican" audience laughs when Brown makes fun of Obama, but then the crowd gets real silent as Brown turns towards their own politicians--you'll even hear a collective groan when Brown talks about Mitt Romney's multiple first, second and third ladies. Of course, the audience really laughed at Brown's Sanford and Son joke. There certainly was not much befuddlement on the audiences' part, as they were laughing at Brown's jokes against the president. The "befuddlement" came when Brown started making fun of the GOP politicians. It is almost like the Republicans can't laugh at themselves.

Stephen Colbert on Paul Revere's Midnight Ride

I guess Sarah Palin was right--Stephen Colbert just proved it with his re-enactment of Paul Revere's famous Midnight Ride. It is hysterical.

Full Metal Christmas

Since we're coming into the Christmas season, it is the perfect time to enjoy some great Christmas specials. One of my favorites is the combining of Santa Claus is coming to Town video with R. Lee Ermey's drill sergeant intro in Full Metal Jacket. I just love this YouTube video:

Happy Turkey Day! Palin pardons turkey amidst slaughter!

Happy Turkey Day! And in honor of our stuffing turkey this Thanksgiving, here is that wonderful video of former Republican vice presidential candidate, Alaska governor Sarah Palin performing her official governing duties of pardoning a turkey for this Thanksgiving. However the shocking, breaking news isn't Sarah Palin's turkey pardon--yes, you already know what happens after Palin's pardon. From Countdown:

The irony here is just amazing. Sarah Palin pardons one turkey, and then takes questions before reporters as two turkeys are killed behind her--completely oblivious to the horrifying slaughter taking place. What is really funny is watching the turkey executioner doing his gruesome work. He's having a good old time doing his job, while watching Sarah Palin blather away as he is grinning at the TV cameras--Look Ma, I'm on TV!

Of course, this brings Keith Olbermann, since he was absent the day of Palin's turkey pardon, into this turkey fracas. From Countdown:

Maybe it is time to get rid of this annual turkey pardon?

Update: Here is the full Slate video of Palin's turkey pardon updates:

Saturday Night Live--George W. Bush gives his endorsement to John McCain and Sarah Palin

Let us have some fun with this Saturday Night Live sketch of Will Ferrell's President George W. Bush giving an endorsement to Tina Fey's Sarah Palin.

I am still amazed at how Tina Fey has got the look, and the act, down for Governor Sarah Palin.

The VP Debate--Saturday Night Live style

Tina Fey still shows her wicked, comedic side in portraying Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in Saturday Night Live's opening skit of the vice presidential debate. Queen Latifah portrays moderator Gwen Ifill, while SNL's Jason Sudeikis shows just how tough Joe Biden is during the debate.

And yes, Tina Fey shows just what she can do with that flute.

Tina Fey wickedly slams Sarah Palin in two SNL skits

For the past two weeks, former Saturday Night Live cast member Tina Fey has agreed to return to SNL for a series of skits parodying Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. And Tina Fey was just brilliant, completely spot-on with Palin's tone, mannerisms, and her behavior. Tina Fey looks like a dead-ringer for Sarah Palin. Here is Fey's first Palin skit, with Amy Poehler playing Hillary Clinton, from SNL's September 20th show:

And here is Fey's second Sarah Palin skit, parodying Palin's interview with CBS's Katie Couric, again played by Amy Poehler, on September 27th:

Of course, the SNL writers were especially brilliant in incorporating Sarah Palin's own answer during the Couric interview into the Tina Fey parody. From Keith Olbermann:

It is really bad when a candidate's own words are being used as the punchline for a comedic sketch. Tomorrow, Palin will be attending the vice presidential debate with Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden. I wonder what the SNL writers will be creating from Palin's debate with Biden?

Barack Obama on Saturday Night Live

I have to say, this intro sketch on last night's Saturday Night Live was wicked. We're at Bill and Hillary Clinton's Halloween Party, and all the Democratic candidates came dressed in their own interesting costumes. Barack Obama came to the Clinton Halloween party dressed....as himself. It is just good fun. From YouTube:

Bush administration to be cartoon

BERJAYAA younger version of George W. Bush jams with his pals in "Lil' Bush." From CNN

This looks like it might be fun. From CNN.Com:

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Comedy Central has ordered "Lil' Bush: Resident of the United States," a cartoon satire that re-imagines President Bush and key executives in his administration as elementary school misfits.

The title character is surrounded by close pals like Lil' Cheney, who grumbles unintelligibly, and Lil' Condi, who pines for Lil' Bush and does his homework for him.

"Bush" is not without its risque moments. When Lil' Bush's school serves falafel instead of hot dogs for lunch in one episode, he and his pals torture the cafeteria employees with methods made famous during the Abu Ghraib prison scandal.

Six episodes from writer-producer Donick Cary ("The Simpsons") have been ordered to air on Comedy Central next year.

So this Bush cartoon is going to be produced by Simpsons' writer-producer Donick Carey. The Simpsons is one of the longest-running American sitcom, and one of the longest-running American animation programs to date at 19 seasons. Carey was involved in writing seven episodes on the Simpsons, as well as writing for Just Shoot Me and the Late Show with David Letterman. You have to wonder if Carey can bring the same blend of cynicism and satire that has made the Simpsons a hit to Lil' Bush--because you can bet there are six years of Bush incompetence, scandals, and controversies to mine for this new series. Continuing with the story:

"Bush" got its start in September as six five-minute clips offered by Amp'd Mobile, a U.S.-based wireless service that packages video entertainment programming with cell phone service.

"Bush" represents an unlikely reversal of the one-way flow of programming from television to other digital platforms, where networks and studios are attempting to extend franchises in search of new revenue. That said, many a programmer has cited the Internet and mobile arenas as potential breeding grounds for fare that could translate back to TV.

"What's exciting as a developer is that content can come from so many places these days," said Lauren Corrao, executive VP original programming and development at Comedy Central.

Amp'd is licensing "Bush" to Comedy Central while retaining rights to air the series on its Comedy Central-branded video channel as well as an exclusive hold on wallpaper and ringtones that emerge from the series in any region Amp'd operates.

"We looked at it as an experiment to use mobile as an incubator that would pop to television," said Seth Cummings, senior VP content development and programming at Amp'd. "It's a huge validator right out of the gate because it's the first project we did."

"Bush" has gotten traction on viral video sites like YouTube, where the original episodes has drawn more than 230,000 streams. It won't be Comedy Central's first foray into devoting an entire series to poking fun at Bush. In 2001, the live-action spoof "That's My Bush," from "Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, had a short-lived run on the network.

The one problem I do have with Lil' Bush is the time frame. The Bush presidency is up within two years--will that be enough time to produce and air a hit cartoon series? This series is a parody of the Bush presidency--will it continue after President Bush steps down in January 2009, and a new president is (hopefully) elected into office? Or will the writers adapt Lil' Bush into a new political landscape that will reflect U.S. politics in 2009?
